Pitman, NJ — Morrisville State College junior quarterback Lemar Johnson (Ossining, NY/Ossining) and The College of New Jersey’s senior linebacker Nick Bricker (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) have been selected as the NJAC Offensive and Defensive Football Players of the Year respectively for the 2013 season. In total, 79 student-athletes garnered NJAC all-conference recognition in the sport of football in 2013. All selections were made by a vote of the league’s eight head coaches.
A two-time NJAC and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week selection during the 2013 season, Johnson currently leads the conference in pass efficiency rating (132.1), total offense (309.1 yards per game) and passing touchdowns (23). The first Mustang to garner a major NJAC award in the six seasons since Morrisville has held affiliate membership in the NJAC, Johnson also currently ranks second in the league in passing yards per game (251.0)
A three-time NJAC all-conference selection, Bricker is the second consecutive TCNJ linebacker to garner the league’s top defensive honor. A two-time NJAC and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week selection during the 2013 season, he currently leads the NJAC in both tackles (117) and tackles per game (11.7). Bricker also currently ranks second in the league in tackles for a loss (15).
William Paterson University senior punter Julian Frazier (Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) was selected as the NJAC Special Teams Player of the Year, marking the first time in the history of the honor that it has been awarded to a punter. A two-time NJAC and ECAC Special Teams Player of the Week selection during the 2013 season, Frazier currently leads the NJAC in both punting average (42.3) and total yards punted (2,580).
The College at Brockport’s freshman running back Dan Andrews (Rochester, NY/Franklin) was selected as the NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Year. A first-team all-conference selection as a freshman, Andrews currently leads the NJAC in both yards per carry (6.6) and rushing touchdowns (10). A three-time NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week selection, he also currently ranks third in the league in rushing with an average of 104.8 yards per game. SUNY Cortland freshman linebacker Tristan Laurore (Jamaica, NY/Boys & Girls) garnered the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year award. A three-time NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week selection, he currently ranks third in the NJAC in both tackles (96) and tackles per game (9.6). An all-conference honoree as a freshman, Laurore also currently ranks tied for ninth in the league in tackles for a loss (11.5).
Rowan University head coach Jay Accorsi was selected as the NJAC Coach of the Year by his peers. In 2013, Accorsi has guided the Profs to an 8-2 overall record, a share of the NJAC championship, and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament via the NJAC’s automatic qualification.
