New independent survey from BR4ND reveals top three hurdles for new fashion designers today.
London, England (PRWEB UK) 14 November 2013
Fashion design remains one of the most competitive industries to break into and a new independent survey commissioned by on-trend, designer fashion outlet BR4ND (http://www.br4nd.co.uk), has discovered the top three hurdles for new fashion designers in the UK today. ‘Standing out from the crowd and getting noticed’ came top of the poll and was cited as the biggest hurdle for fashion designers entering the market. This was closely followed by ‘getting in front of retailers’ and ‘getting designs in front of the right people’ was the third most popular answer.
The research which independently surveyed over 500 in the fashion sector asked respondents to highlight the biggest hurdle for new fashion designers today. The challenge of producing designs that are ‘wearable’ but still different was cited as another major hurdle as well as the risk of small designers losing sales if they don’t have the capacity to mass-produce items. High commission rates charged by many of the mainstream online retailers today, was also highlighted as a barrier to market.
In the wake of these findings, BR4ND (Building Reputations for New Designers) launches this week in a bid to help quash many of the barriers faced by new fashion designers today. By offering a secure, fair-trade platform, new designers, fashion students and start-ups will be able to merchandise their designs and retain their own brand while increasing visibility and exposure in a relevant fashion community.
Young entrepreneur Toby Brand, Managing Director of cutting-edge fashion firm BR4ND who commissioned the research said, “For most, these findings won’t be a complete shock because most of us know that fashion design has always been a very difficult and cut-throat industry to break into. But what is becoming apparent is that there are a number of very talented designers out there destined for great things, who are simply not getting a look in, and that’s a great shame. As an industry we should be encouraging entrepreneurialism and innovation in this sector and that’s exactly what BR4ND is about – great fashion is not just about established brands and those with the right connections but also about fresh, raw talent.”
BR4ND offers a range of on-trend, designer clothing and accessories for men, women and children specialising only in original, high quality fashion which champions innovation and goes against the grain of high street mass-produced items.
BR4ND is currently recruiting new fashion designers for its retail outlet. Visit the website for more details.
