Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP) and its members promote the business case for strategic information and analysis at the 2013 SLA Conference and Info-Expo, held June 9-11, 2013, in San Diego, California.
Baton Rouge, LA (PRWEB) June 28, 2013
In today’s information age—in which global citizens have unprecedented access to digital and mobile information—the value of trained information professionals is more critical than ever. “What will distinguish companies of the future won’t be changes in technology, but changes in mentality,” stated SLA 2013 Annual Conference keynote speaker Mike Walsh.
Info pros zero in on the best content and the most credible sources to underpin business decisions. They analyze data to enable clients to act. They provide facts and expert opinion from high-value sources not available on the free Web. They organize data for access using metadata and taxonomy skills, and more.
AIIP President Jocelyn Sheppard noted, “The SLA conference was a powerhouse event for the information profession. Expert researchers and information managers scanned the horizon of opportunity for themselves and the clients whose work they support. Moving beyond technical expertise, today’s info pros focus on making knowledge workers in all settings more effective and informed.”
Several SLA conference luminaries, speakers, and presenters are linked to AIIP in ways that underscore how AIIP supports entrepreneurs in the information field. Rachel Bates Wilfahrt of Denver, Colorado, was recognized as an 2013 SLA Rising Star for her work as President of SLA’s Rocky Mountain Chapter and for her other contributions to the profession and SLA. Recently elected SLA Fellow Scott Brown joins SLA Fellows and AIIP members Marydee Ojala, Cindy Hill, and others past and present.
Other information industry leaders in AIIP include SLA President Deb Hunt, Past Chapter Cabinet Chair and consultant Ulla de Stricker, Illinois Chapter President Anne Hengehold, recent San Diego Chapter president Cindy Shamel, noted online search expert and author Mary Ellen Bates, and many more.
AIIP connected with established and new info pros at a reception and in the Info-Expo exhibit hall. J. Beach Clow of LeadValu, based in Niwot, Colorado, was the winner of AIIP’s free one-year membership give-away, an annual tradition at the SLA conference. Next year’s SLA conference will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
