The Artist Residence belongs to a trio of UK boutique hotels, one of which sits right on the seafront in the historic Regency Square in Brighton. The hotel has just 23 rooms all of which are unique in style, 12 of these are actually designed by local and international artists and spread across two 19th century townhouses. The building feels more like a b&b than a hotel, with vintage wooden staircases, cosy rooms, and super friendly service. We stayed in one of the Comfy Sea View rooms with balcony, king bed, small bathroom with a shower over a very small bath (no beached whales here!) and some amazing Organic Bramley bath products. There’s also tea & coffee and whilst the rooms are small the design is well thought out so there’s space for luggage, hanging and mini bar items too.
Downstairs the hotel houses two restaurants, a basement cocktail bar and The Curious Mr Hanbury hidden behind a wall of books – we won’t ruin the suprise but make sure you pay him a visit. The Set restaurants and The Set Cafe are destinations in their own right and attract as many locals as guests. We sampled the brunch menu before we departed on Sunday including the mega chicken wing sandwich and fried banana bread with ice-cream and smoked fudge sauce.
The Artist Residence is the perfect home away from home and it’s bloody good value too. The next time we’re in Brighton we know EXACTLY where we’re moving in to!
