September 18 KIM SIMMONDS & SAVOY BROWN

Special 50th Anniversary Celebration show!

“Legendary”…“a blues/rock institution”…“true innovators.” These are just a few of the ways Savoy Brown has been described over the past 50 years by music critics and fans. One of the earliest of British blues bands, Savoy Brown helped launch the 1967 UK blues boom movement that brought blues music back to the USA invigorating the style ever since. Their influence now stretches into modern rock as we know it today. From London’s Soho night clubs in 1966 to headlining the world’s most famous venues-Carnegie Hall, Fillmore’s East and West-Savoy Brown has done it all. With founder guitarist Kim Simmonds at the helm, Savoy Brown continues to tour worldwide-giving a glimpse into the past, but also inspiring new listeners with their personal brand of rocking boogie, blues and rock.

September 19 THE JOHN BUTCHER AXIS

As founder of “The Jon Butcher Axis”, Grammy nominee and Boston’s own Jon Butcher has earned his place in music history books and beyond. Jon’s discography of 19 national and international releases, MTV and VH1 music videos are the underpinnings of a music career that continues today. Jon’s latest Cd release, “AXIS 3” and the theatrical debut of KISS THE SKY both promise an exciting highly visible 2014/2015.

Additionally, Jon’s film music supervision company “Electric Factory Media”, provides film score, soundtrack and music licensing for television and film including The Simpsons (FOX), Six Feet Under (HBO), The Sopranos (HBO), Deadwood (HBO), United States of Tara (Showtime), Ugly Betty (ABC), My Name Is Earl (NBC), The Life and Times of Buffalo Bill (A+E) and many more.

“I’ve always believed that creative people have to be willing to see themselves in new ways. Challenges are merely chances to become more today than you were the day before.”

Jon continues to explore and re-define his own artistic vision. He can be seen touring this year with rock trio The Jon Butcher Axis: Celebrating the Music of Jimi Hendrix. This powerful and dynamic show features Jon reunited with original Axis bassist Chris Martin along with drummer/vocalist John Anthony and is selling out theatres across the country. Don’t miss this rare chance to experience a rock icon up close at Tupelo Music Hall…

September 20 CRASH TEST DUMMIES Acoustic show with Brad Roberts

There is no mistaking Brad Roberts’ voice. He may look like an average guy, now in his mid-40s, but then he opens his mouth and his majestic baritone voice immediately conjures fond memories of such Crash Test Dummies hits at “Mmm, Mmm, Mmm, Mmm” and “Superman.” Perhaps best remembered for the acerbic folk rock sound of 1991’s The Ghosts That Haunt Me and 1993’s God Shuffled His Feet, there have nonetheless been enough hits for the band over the years to merit a couple of greatest hits packages. Through it all, the band with Roberts at the helm has touched on funk and soul, folk, electronic music and even Christmas tunes. Yet it is Roberts’ voice and offbeat lyrical sensibility that have been this beloved band’s calling cards since their founding twenty years ago.

October 31 GALLAGHER with Special Guest ARTIE FLETCHER

Legendary Comedian Gallagher performs his hilarious and brilliant Standup Comedy!

Sure, he’s the famous watermelon smasher. Yes, he literally INVENTED the television stand-up comedy special. Absolutely, 14 Showtime specials is a big deal. And certainly 3,500 live shows to capacity crowds is worth mentioning.

But how about that he is the reason they invented Comedy Central? Or that before him no one ever had that level of interaction with a live audience? Or that he was the #1 comedian (in ticket sales and ratings) for almost 15 years?

December 12 IRON BUTTERFLY

The Los Angeles music climate of the late sixties and seventies was characterized by the heavy sounds and sentiments that reflected the revolutionary attitudes of the generation. Bursting onto that scene was Iron Butterfly, whose sound not only epitomized the hard attitudes of the youth with its heavy drumming and bass lines, but also embraced more delicate aspirations through its intricate guitar and keyboard overlays.

Iron Butterfly was signed to ATCO records (a division of Atlantic Records) and released their first album, aptly titled “Heavy”. While the band was on the road with the likes of: The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Traffic, The Who, and Cream, their impressive debut stayed on Billboard’s album charts for almost a year!

They followed up with the monumental LP, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”, featuring the 17:05 minute side-long track that shook the entire music industry with its phenomenal reception. ’Vida outsold every record in the history of recorded music within the first year of its release and therefore outgrew and outsold the standard of the music industry’s “Gold Album” award.

December 13 THE SECURITY PROJECT

The timeless music of Peter Gabriel has found new life through The Security Project. Featuring former members of Peter Gabriel Band, King Crimson, Shriekback and Sky Cries Mary, The Security Project not only recreates these masterpieces live, but gives them new musical wings for the 21st century. The reviews have been glowing: “Scary Good Show!” raves Progression Magazine after their premiere in New York City. Noted musicians also have given a thumbs up, including Tony Levin, Larry Fast (both from Gabriel’s band) Steve Hackett (Genesis), Jon Anderson (Yes), Gabriel Mixer/Producer Tom Lord-Alge and Gabriel analyst Lilywhite Leigh. With Gabriel now a double-inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (both with Genesis as well as his solo career) The Security Project specializes in the most adventurous, often un-played, music from his first five solo albums – Car (1), Scratch (2), Melting Face (3), Security and Plays Live.

Founding member Jerry Marotta says: “Peter was always great at setting the table for us as musicians; he always got us started with great ideas… As we were creating SECURITY we had no idea we were making something so unique… I’m proud that with Security Project we’re able to deliver the deepest of those songs, and do it with real conviction – playing them live.”

The live shows have included such gems as: “The Rhythm of the Heat”, “Intruder”, “On The Air”, “San Jacinto“, “Moribund The Burgermeister”, “Here Comes the Flood”, “No Self Control”, “I Have the Touch”, “The Family & The Fishing Net”, “Wallflower”, along with the occasional classic from “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”

“TSP are a mind-blowing amalgam of disparate musical brilliance!” – Gabriel

“Irish music fans should walk over broken glass to hear this band.” -Pulse Magazine

This dynamic, high-spirited, six-member band from Ireland’s County Sligo returns to the Flynn. Dervish “weaves a hypnotic brand of traditional magic, leaving their audience in a state of toe-tapping excitement,” says the Dublin Evening Herald. Lead singer Cathy Jordan sings rollicking ballads in both Gaelic and English, spinning tales of life and love in a rich, evocative voice. Dervish’s songs are interspersed with high-energy reels and jigs on fiddle, flute, accordion, bouzouki, and mandolin.
