“Getting lost is just another way of saying ‘going exploring,’” says author Justina Chen in her novel “North of Beautiful.” After coming across the the interesting photo above, taken by our fellow lomographer paulinetuesday above, using a Canon FTb loaded with DM Paradies 200 film she brought during a trip to Vienna, this perspective about travel and getting lost made perfect sense to me. The ultimate goal of every trip is to bring home an experience — even if it meant getting a bit lost along the way. Who knows what you’re going to find? With this in mind, I had to ask her to share with us the story behind the photo and was glad that she affirmed what I thought about her beautiful snap:
“January’s Wien was our little escape from everyday reality. We took thick sweaters, backpacks, old maps and almost didn’t catch the early train. In the beginning we were lost but we didn’t mind. Wandering through empty morning streets we were enjoying freedom and unknown places with heads up and mouths open. The air was cool but full of unexpected feelings of happiness. We were walking in silence through many streets and randomly finding famous places. However, the greatest treasures for us were those hidden aisles with peculiar atmosphere without any human beings, where we got accidentally while trying to find the right way.”
