Amazon has reported that more than one million items of clothing and shoes were ordered from its UK website last week, making it the biggest week for fashion sales to date on the site.

The milestone was reached a year after the launch of the Amazon.co.uk Premium Fashion Store.

Sergio Bucher, vice president of EU Fashion at Amazon, said: “During the past 12 months we’ve added more than 50 new fashion brands to Amazon.co.uk including Emporio Armani, Hoss Intropia, Ben Sherman, and French Connection. Fashion is one of the fastest growing businesses on Amazon.co.uk and we look forward to adding even greater selection to the site in 2014.”

Other brands sold on Amazon.co.uk include 7 For All Mankind, Levis, Brooks Brothers, Emu Australia, Timberland, Princesse Tam Tam and Tommy Hilfiger, as well as a growing selection of British brands including Clarks, Hunter, Pringle, Lavenham, Ted Baker shoes, Alan Paine, Bolongaro Trevor and Great Plains.

Globally, Amazon has 35 million active customers shopping for clothes.

Christopher North, managing director of Amazon.co.uk, added: ”Over the past 12 months we’ve made significant strides to become a one-stop shop for anyone looking for fashion products. We are committed to working with fashion brands of all sizes to provide a high quality, virtual shop window for their products, while offering the most compelling shopping experience for customers.”
