Lombard, Illinois USA (July 10, 2013)–The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) will hold its 2013 Taiwan conference, Building a Resilient Supply Chain in Uncertain Times, on August 15, 2013 at the Gis NTU Convention Center, Taipei, Taiwan. The event will be followed by facility tours to Jvan-An International Logistics and Tonglit Automobile Logistics/Port of Taipei on August 16, 2013.
CSCMP’s 2013 Taiwan Conference will provide global attendees with opportunities to learn how to build resilience into their supply chains from the experiences of leading corporations as well as from studies conducted by supply chain academics.
“Due to potentially disastrous impacts on global supply chains caused by manmade and natural disasters,” said Dr. Thomas Speh, CSCMP’s director of strategic initiatives and director of e-learning at the Farmer School of Business, Miami University, “supply chain resilience has become an important topic in today’s business environment. To mitigate disruptions and reduce risk, supply chain executives must make concerted efforts to collaborate more closely with suppliers and shift from lean supply chain planning to agile and resilient planning. This conference will give them the tools and knowledge they need to achieve this.”
In addition to natural disasters, incidents related to currency fluctuations, economic downturns, supplier failures, intellectual property issues, strikes, political unrest, and terrorism also have the potential to cripple a supply chain’s ability to deliver product to end customers. A majority of companies report experiencing at least one significant supply chain disruption annually.
Terry Lee, president of CSCMP’s Taiwan Roundtable and vice chairman, Council of Economic Development and Planning (CEPD), will be the event’s opening speaker. Conference topics include creating effective risk management strategies, the role that information technology plays in resilient supply chains, supplier compliance, integrating continuity planning and incident management, transforming supply chain challenges into advantages, and looking ahead to the logistics of the future. The program will conclude with a panel discussion on building resilient supply chains in uncertain times.
The conference will feature expert speakers from top organizations such as ASE Group, Association for Support of Economic Sustainable Development (ESD21), ASUSTek Computer Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., DHL Express Taiwan, Dimerco Express Group, Dun Bradstreet International Ltd. Taiwan, McDonald’s Taiwan, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
