Debbie Schacter
If you’re anything like me, September seems like the start of a new year for professional development opportunities. It’s energizing to kick off the Fall with workshops or a course, and for contributing to the discussions that are happening in SLA and with other communities of practice. Small ways of engaging and getting started are all around us – from the LMD Virtual Book Club organized by our Chair-Elect, Janel, to more structured webinars or certificate programs.
Setting priorities in the Fall also sets us up for the time and budget requirements for attending conferences. While the SLA conference is many months away, Leadership Summit is coming upon us soon, and LMD is encouraging SLA members to plan to attend. The Summit is a wonderful opportunity for leadership training both within and outside of formal leadership roles in SLA.
We’re also looking forward to nominating our new Board members, and I am happy to report that LMD has received great interest in positions that will be open in the 2019 Board. Ethel Salonen is finalizing the nominations, so if you have a thought to participate in a specific role or perhaps to test the waters in a supportive committee opportunity, please let Ethel know as soon as possible.
As the LMD Board has regular meetings, I also encourage you to please share any feedback that you may have.
Thank you.
