I went into Joanns the other day which is something I find myself doing now that I finally live by one. I don’t go in too often, but every once in a while I remember to go to just check out what is there & of course the fabric section is pretty great along with the coupons. As I was aimlessly walking around & trying got avoid putting things I didn’t need into my cart, I found this bundle of birch sticks. My brain instantly thought of making a ladder out of the birch so of course I accepted the challenge & they ended up in my cart. Of course when I got them home & told Jose my plan, he immediately took over & made the ladder in probably an 1/8th of the time it would have taken me. I’m seriously all about girl power & doing things myself, but when that handsome husband of mine volunteers to do something for me & it’s one less thing off my checklist.. I accept the help & I’m not ashamed. This is how our DIY birch log ladder turned out….

It was seriously a really simple concept. Two large birch sticks for the side pieces & two of the birch logs cut to go between the two side pieces to create the ladder. The packs of birch logs came in a pack of 3 or 4 for $12.99 I believe, but remember they always have coupons. Of course you can always use some birch that you find on the ground in nature, but buying some birch logs that were already cleaned & perfect for me it seemed like a great choice. He used a nail gun to attach the cut birch logs to the two side pieces to attach them together. After they were all nailed on, he used rope to tie the edges to make it looks like that’s how they were attached. The perfect finishing touch! I like the way his brain thinks.

I styled the birch log ladder in our downstairs living room holding some blankets. But this ladder could be used in so many different ways. It would also look so great leaning by a Christmas tree, used on a porch for decor, hanging in a gallery wall, & so much more. It’s just a cute little ladder that took maybe 30 minutes or less to make. Pretty easy, pretty affordable, & pretty darn cute.

I think this ladder makes great Christmas & winter decor, but seriously it could be used all year when you style it differently. I have this little obsession with ladders so this little DIY ladder makes me really happy. What do you think of our DIY ladder?
