This is a post that has been a long time coming! Well, last year we got some of the best news that we could ever get. Jose & I were going to be an aunt & uncle! My brother & sister-in-law were pregnant with their first baby & I was so excited to be a first time aunt. I think aunty Liz sounds pretty amazing if you ask me. Beyond that, how amazing that my brother who has been there with me since the day I was born & who I can honestly say is one of the greatest men on this planet was going to be a dad & that his wife who I can honestly say is one of my best friends was going to be a mommy…. to MY nephew. Too cool. Well, Christmas time came last year & it was time for her first baby shower. She wanted to have it while I could be home in Michigan so she decided to have it then. They were not going to find out the sex of the little one so everything up until the day he was born was gender neutral. I wanted to give them something from my heart for her shower present & struggled with what to do for the longest time. Until one day I got a call from one of my friends who was selling her glider. Lightbulb. Slap myself on the face. Duh! I would paint & re-do the glider for their nursery. That’s my thing. I like to paint furniture. So what a special gift that I could use my talents to create my nephew & his parents something from my heart. Enter the glider. Not bad looking, great shape, I just wanted to make it happier. & yes we traveled all the way from North Carolina to Michigan with this glider & it’s ottoman in our backseat. That is love people. My nephew was born a little over a month ago & I went home last week  to meet my him for the first time. While I was there I snapped a few quick pictures of the glider in his nursery.

I knew I wanted a bright fun color so I went with Valspar’s Toasted wheat for a fresh sunny color in their gender neutral jungle themed room. I used my Graco paint sprayer to paint this piece mainly because this is a really hard piece to paint with a brush & I had a limited amount of time to do it. I first sprayed the piece with primer with the spray gun & then I sprayed it with a few layers of the toasted wheat paint. I don’t use my paint sprayer often because I like using a brush when I do most of my pieces, but it’s handy to have around for pieces like this. If you want me to do a review on the paint sprayer & a how-to leave a comment below. Another great way to paint a glider would be simply using spray paint & spray paint primer. I sealed the piece using Minwax spray polyurethane in satin to seal the piece. I had a friend of mine make slipcovers for the cushions & I re-upholstered the ottoman in a white cotton fabric that I bought at Wal-mart. & voila a new chair for an awesome nursery!

Meeting my precious nephew last week for the first time via Instagram {@lizmariegalvan} My heart is so full of love for this little guy & I can’t imagine my life with out him as my nephew!

I loved surprising my sister-in-law at her shower with this glider. It is a memory I’m sure we both will never forget. What do you think of the glider makeover? Have you refinished a glider before? What was your experience? I would love to see it! Leave a comment below or find me on Facebook, or tag me on Instagram!
