Health Canada recently released five consultation documents which focus on various technical aspects of the Nutrition Facts table (NFt), The Nutrition Facts table (NFt) has helped consumers make healthier food choices by providing information about how many calories and how much fat, sodium and other nutrients are in a specified serving of food. Consultation is open for comment and feedback on the proposed revisions from July14, 2014 to September 12, 2014.
The consultations include revisions to serving size declaration, reference amounts, the Daily Values, the format and the list of core nutrient.
Proposed new Serving Size guidelines to make comparing foods easier
Proposed revisions to Reference amounts in Schedule M of the FDR
Proposed changes to the Daily Values (DVs) for use in nutrition labelling
Proposed changes to the Format requirements for the display of nutrition and other information on food labels
Proposed changes to the Core Nutrients declared in the Canadian nutrition facts table
