Organic Colour Systems Permanent Hair Colouring Review

Okay… so let me start by saying that this Organic Colour Systems, permanent hair colouring review, is the result of me simply not being able to accept going grey gracefully at the age of 46.  Maybe if my hair was straight, I could do it, but I am just not ready to have long, curly, grey hair.

Watch my YouTube video review (click here or see video below), to see my experience at Metro Organic Salon, getting my grey hairs professionally dyed back to their natural colour using Organic Colour Systems.

Now some more information on why  I choose to use the Organic Colour Systems brand.

Obviously being committed to using the safest, purest and cruelty-free accredited, cosmetic products, in both my professional work, (as a hair and makeup artist  nicolegroch.com.au) and for my personal use, I struggled with the concept of using any hair coloring product that contained known, toxic chemicals.

However, my vanity got the better of me, and I decided to find the safest product I could, that would permanently colour my greys back to my own natural dark brown shade.

You may question why didn’t I choose Henna?

Henna was not a suitable choice for me for a number of reasons;

To date, there is no Henna brand that has been accredited here in Australia, by  chooscrueltyfree.org.au, and I  will only use, review and recommend, accredited cosmetic brands.

Henna, in its purest form, is a reddish/orange pigment. To make a brown or black Henna, then something must be added to it. Often it is metallic salts, PPD, ( which is the well publicized toxic ingredient in conventional, dark toned, permanent hair dyes) and various plant pigments.

You can’t get an accurate colour match with pure Henna and I wanted to get rid of my greys, while staying true to my natural hair tones.

About the Organic Colour Systems Company Ethics

I decided on Organic Colour Systems, for the following reasons;

I saw that they honestly disclosed that they did use PPD, but at the lowest levels possible.

They are accredited by Choose Cruelty Free.

They are vegan friendly.

They use sustainable and ethically derived ingredients.

They are Ammonia and Paraben free. There are no fumes whatsoever

The product is a lot gentler on the hair and scalp. It didn’t burn or itch while processing.

They do their best to use cleaner, safer and where possible organic ingredients.

Their packaging is eco-friendly.

I agree that the name Organic Colour Systems is a little misleading, but the brand, Organic Colour Systems has been around long before everyone was looking for 100% organic certified ingredients. It is well respected and recognized brand in Europe. Changing a brand name is not so simple.

However, Organic Colour Systems state clearly on their own website, that they use organic ingredients where possible, but also use chemicals. They use these chemicals at the lowest levels possible, but still ensuring that they give the required, salon professional results.

* Many other companies who claim not to use PPD, are using alternatives that are practically the same thing, such as PDTS, PADA, PTDA or TD and TDS . None of these are as effective as PPD at permanently colouring dark hair and they aren’t much safer either!

This company is transparent, they happily showed me all the ingredients in the colouring products, and yes there are chemicals and artificial ingredients. Sure, I wish that there weren’t, but it is our choice to choose if we want to expose ourselves to chemicals.

If we want to cover grey hair and colour match to our own dark hair shade, then chemicals are at this stage of the game, the only way!

Organic Colour Systems are doing the best they can. They are always researching to find safer, more natural and still vegan friendly ingredients. This is one very ethical, upfront company and I commend them.
