I am joining a group of bloggers from Collective Bias to host our own posts about our favorite local restaurants! If you’re new here you may not know where I live, I live in Albion,NY a nice quiet little town with only a few things to do. Living next to the Erie Canal there is much local history and you can find out all about my town at our local visitation center when you drop by. However if you’re hungry there are many great local restaurants to satisfy your taste buds.

Village House Restaurant

My family has been coming to this restaurant for years. When looking to get together for a big breakfast, or Keith and I want some take out for lunch or dinner you will probably find us right here. Here is how they got started:

Local Tradition Alex Mitrousis got into the restaurant business over 40 years ago when he opened the Brockport Diner.  Currently, his 2 sons, Spiro & Dino have brought the tradition here and have been serving Albion since 1986.  The Village House continues to offer a friendly relaxing environment with great food, service and reasonable prices for the whole family. They don’t miss much; offering breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week while providing four or five homemade soups and specials daily. Stop in!  You’ll be sure to enjoy their large menu and friendly staff.

If you have never tried Greek food from an actual Greek family you really need to stop by the Village House. For years I had a picky mouth and would only get BLTs, those were still delicious! They serve tasty Soulvakis and Gyros along with many favorites for the whole family Eggplant Parmesan, Baked Ziti, Steak and more. What’s better is you can view all of their menus online as well (simply click the Village House Restaurant name above to take you to their site).  Recently they have redesigned their outside and inside, our favorite thing to do is try and get a new table each time to read their “fun facts” written on the creamer bowl.

They are a very nice family friendly restaurant with friendly waitresses and you can always find the managers around too!

Open Monday – Saturday 5:30am – 10pm | Sunday 6:30am – 9pm

Tillman’s Village Inn

Another restaurant that is a family favorite is Tillman’s Village Inn. Each Thanksgiving we use to reserve a table here while my grandmother was still alive. Currently we stop by when we can because the food is just delicious! Here is just a small bit of history about the Tillman’s Village Inn:

The Village Inn stands in the center of a village planned by John Proctor, a local

entrepreneur of the 19th century. Mr. Proctor’s village, which he named Fair Haven, grew to its present size between 1819 and 1860. It is evident that Mr. Proctor saw the economic benefit, to both buyer and seller, of the then new idea of cobblestone construction sweeping Western New York. By selling building lots for $30.00, he could entice settlers to build houses of cobblestone cleared from land, which he still owned, behind the lots.

Serving brunch, dinner and hosting banquets, Tillman’s Village Inn is a great place to learn about history in my town and to feel like you’re treated as a deserving guest! Dinner dishes like : Baby Back Ribs, Filet Mignon, Shrimp Scampi, Black Pearl Scallops, Broiled Fresh Haddock, plus a kiddie corner menus for the little ones. You can find all of their menus online as well. If you need a place to stay you can also check into their Inn!

Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, Black North Inn is a beautiful place to come to by boat or car. Here is a little history about the Black North Inn:

Established in 1857, the Black North Inn is known for its Lake Ontario view front, seasonal dining, and sociable atmosphere. We are proud and honored to serve the local Point Breeze community, found at the mouth of the Oak Orchard River. Stop in by boat, car or motorcycle!  Our menu is known for its variety, with something for everyone; seafood, steaks, prime rib, burgers, specialty pizzas, wings, delicious homemade soups, and so much more! My father always takes Korey along with me down to Lake Ontario to see the boats and walk along the boat ramps. It’s nice to see the different style of boats coming in, but even better to satisfy your hungry with a bite to eat! Follow their name above to view their full menu.

The Crooked Door Tavern

If you like water fronts the Crooked Door Tavern is another eatery that is located on the Erie Canal. About the Crooked Door Tavern:

The Crooked Door Tavern (CDT) was born from the love that its owners have for their community, as well as their passion for history and preservation. Joe and Debbie Martillotta have taken a traditional neighborhood bar, formerly the “Club 469” , its roots reaching back to the post World War II era, into an updated, fashionable dining establishment. The extensive renovation process spanned foJurteen months, with major modifications to all parts of the building and grounds. Today about the only thing that remains “original”, is the front door. It is still in the shape that it was found …leaning a little to the east. Thus the name “Club 469” was put to rest, and the “Crooked Door Tavern” was born.

This is more of an adult place to eat as there is a fully stocked bar, if you’re looking for a quiet place to eat come here around lunch time rather than at night. If you want a great night out filled with laughter and getting to know some of the locals then stop by during the night and grab a drink or two! Frequently hosting private events as well as local artists to come and keep you entertained you can find yourself getting comfortable without the kids for the night. Full menu of burgers, sandwiches, pastas and more you will find something that you can dig into for sure, along with a kids menu if you decide to bring your kids along. You can find the full menus online by following the name on top.
