Reports have indicated that talks between Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp's representatives are going well.
Liverpool are reportedly making good progress with the first-choice candidate to succeed Brendan Rodgers as manager. Jürgen Klopp appears to have the support of the fans, board, and informed observers for the Liverpool job. The former Borussia Dortmund manager was reportedly contacted by Liverpool with a view to eventually appointing him during the international break. According to the BBC's Ben Smith, those talks have been progressing smoothly.
Ben Smith is one of the most accurate and well-informed journalists when it comes to the biggest news concerning Liverpool Football Club and believes that the German tactician would be interested in becoming the club's 20th full-time manager since 1892. Negotiations are also taking place over Brendan Rodgers' severance package, which Smith suggested would amount to £5 million. Klopp presumably would command a significant salary as one of the most charismatic and highly-rated managers in the world's most popular sport.
James Pearce wrote in the Liverpool Echo that Klopp could be appointed by the end of the week. Talks are being conducted by chief executive Ian Ayre with John W Henry, Tom Werner, and Mike Gordon running the show behind the scenes in Boston. If Liverpool can secure the 48-year-old's services, he'll presumably have at least a week to prepare and be in the dugout at White Hart Lane against Tottenham Hotspur on 17 October.
It will be interesting to see how quickly Liverpool can get this done along with what the set-up will be moving forward.
UPDATE: A three-year deal has been widely reported to be on offer for Klopp who would be the second German manager in England's top flight after Felix Magath's disastrous stint at Fulham.
