The Making of Gone with the Wind – Monday, October 20 – Friday, October 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Exhibit is open until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.) Go behind the scenes of one of the classic films of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Featuring more than 300 rarely seen and some never-before-exhibited materials, the exhibition is drawn entirely from the Ransom Center’s collections. Kids will learn how to navigate the YouTube website using keyword functions and categories and then use those skills for a scavenger hunt. Roast and Toast of John Kelso – Thursday, October 23 from 5:30-10:00 p.m. To celebrate his tenure as Austin’s favorite cantankerous columnist, the humorist John Kelso is taking up residency for one night at Scholz Garden to revisit his favorite stories and honor the folks that have served as his subjects (writing, not royal) over the years. Armed with an open mic and his usual snarky insight, Kelso will spend an evening sharing his experiences with friends, fans, and foes who will all get the chance to roast and toast the wry and witty writer, or turn the tables with some tales of their own. Game On Austin – Thursday, October 23 from 6-10:00 p.m. The goal of Game On Austin is to give Austinites a chance to interact with art being made around them without the stuffiness of a conference. The gaming will run unabated from 6-9 p.m. After that, local chiptune artists the Mysterious H and MonsterVision will take the stage with help from projection artist Vision System to keep the party going until you realize it’s a school night. Entry is $3 for adults. Kids under 14 are free if accompanied by an adult. Sneak Preview Film Screening: Canine Soldiers – Thursday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. Canine Soldiers is a documentary-in-progress that reveals the intimate bond between trainers and the dogs they send to war, soldiers who make decisions based on the behavior of the dogs who lead their patrol, and extraordinary stories of unprecedented acts of bravery. Can animal behavior lend a new perspective on war, teaching us what it means truly to be human in the most inhuman of circumstances? Shakespeare on the Farm: The Tempest (RSVP) – Thursday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m. Present Company presents Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, magic, and one helluva hurricane. Promoting the philosophy of accessible and sustainable art, Shakespeare on the Farm is a FREE event, but a suggested donation of $10-$20 helps support the event and the artists that create it. Shakespeare on the Farm: The Tempest (RSVP) – Friday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. Present Company presents Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, magic, and one helluva hurricane. Promoting the philosophy of accessible and sustainable art, Shakespeare on the Farm is a FREE event, but a suggested donation of $10-$20 helps support the event and the artists that create it. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or short chair and a picnic, although snacks and donation-based cocktails will be available. Suitable for all ages.
