Happening all Week

Wurstfest (New Braunfels) – The festival is a unique annual celebration rich in German culture and takes place near the headwaters of the beautiful Comal River in New Braunfels, Texas. The 2015 Wurstfest is taking place from November 6-15, 2015. Enjoy good food, music, dancing, carnival rides and games, German, Texan and domestic beer, special events and lots of Alpine and Bavarian Style entertainment. Monday through Wednesday, the gates open at 5pm and entertainment ends at 9:30pm. Smart Opera Presents:The Great Poochini – 4 p.m., The Great Poochini by Gary Clement: By day Signor Poochini is a dog, lying peacefully in his master’s living room and listening to music. But by night he is the Great Poochini, the most acclaimed singer in all opera — dog opera that is. One evening, when Poochini is ready to leave home and the opera hall is filling with dogs excitedly awaiting his performance, Poochini’s master leaves the window locked, and Poochini cannot get out. He is in despair, until suddenly a cat burglar appears, and what might have been a disaster becomes an opportunity. Storytime Art – Give Thanks - 10:45 a.m., Storytime Art, or StArt! is a great opportunity for your young child to experience art! Storytimes are geared to the 3 – 5 year old preschooler, but some projects could easily translate into a Mommy and Me project for those a little younger. And, of course, anyone older is welcome, as well! Storytimes always include at least one book and a related art project, but often include surprises like songs, poems, and coloring pages. We’ll talk about what we are thankful for, read books about the season and paint one of my favorite projects:  The Thanksgiving Turkey Handprint.  On the backs of these plates you can write what your child is thankful for this year! Tour-goers are invited to discover new artistic talent, see working studios, learn about artists’ tools, techniques, and inspirations, and explore unique exhibition spaces and local businesses. EAST is divided into four participant categories: Artist Studios, Exhibitions, Happenings, and Select Events. Artist Studios and Exhibitions are free to the public and open on the weekends of November 14-15 & 21-22 from 11am – 6pm. Happenings are also free, occurring on the weekends of the tour with varying hours. Select Events happen on both of the tour weekends, as well as during the weekdays/nights in between and may cost money to attend. Exhibitions take place in spaces that are either dedicated to exhibiting art year-round or temporarily showcasing work for EAST.  Catalog and maps are available at all Austin Public Library branches starting on Monday, November 9th.

Carnival O Pizza – 12-7 p.m., The carnival is at once a celebration of the art of hand tossed pizza, a 10th birthday party for the restaurant and a charitable endeavor intended to give back to the neighborhood and the community that has made Home Slice one of Austin’s favorite eateries. Bike E.A.S.T. - 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Bike E.A.S.T. is a social media-crazed, mostly serious art scavenger hunt, bike ride, and raffle supporting The Ghisallo Cycling Initiative and Big Medium.
