Shakespeare on the Farm: The Tempest – Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. Present Company presents Shakespeare’s classic tale of love, magic, and one helluva hurricane. Promoting the philosophy of accessible and sustainable art, Shakespeare on the Farm is a FREE event, but a suggested donation of $10-$20 helps support the event and the artists that create it. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or short chair and a picnic, although snacks and donation-based cocktails will be available. Suitable for all ages. Pioneer Farms Haunted Trails- Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25, from 7-10 p.m. Experience Halloween like nowhere else in Texas! This year’s theme will be “Disappearance,” featuring a haunted trail where guests will help search for missing loved ones who vanished without a trace from the Sprinkle Corner village, at the hands of legendary Creatures of the Night. Barton Hill Farms Fall Festival and Corn Maze- Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sunday, October 26, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Barton Hill Farms is set amongst 100-year-old cottonwood trees, rolling grassy hills and the picturesque Colorado River. The Hawaiian Falls Pfall Pfestival (Pflugerville)- Friday, October 24, from 3-9 p.m.; Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m.; Sunday, October 26, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Visitors from the local community and across the region will be entertained with a variety of games, craft stations, activities, live music, fall food favorites and more while strolling through our decorated grounds. A Year With Frog and Toad- Saturday, October 25 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sunday, October 26 at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Arnold Lobel’s well-loved characters hop from the page to the stage in this Tony-nominated musical. Follow two great friends waking from hibernation, planting gardens, raking leaves, sledding and learning life lessons along the way. Evergreen Farms Pumpkin Hunt in Elgin- Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 26, from 1-5 p.m. The Pumpkin Hunt is a family-friendly event where children of all ages can enjoy fall activities. All activities are ongoing throughout the day, allowing families to customize their experience at the farm. Pumpkins of all sizes will be available for purchase. The premier event, the Pumpkin Hunt, includes a wagon ride into the Christmas tree fields where mini pumpkins are hidden in the trees. Texas Book Festival- Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26. There are hundreds of author sessions and panels, live music on both days, children’s activities, cooking demos, a Lit Crawl, food, drinks and more. For the kids, HEB Children’s Chapter will feature the Children’s Read Me a Story Tent, a Children’s Entertainment Tent, and Children’s Activity Tent. One highlight this year will be the Storybook Fashion Show, in which kids will dress up like their favorite characters and walk the runway. Shipwrecked in 4D- Saturday, 12:30 p.m. Shipwrecked is a new 4D immersive theater experience produced by the Bullock Texas State History Museum in conjunction with award-winning production house Cortina Productions. Shipwrecked follows the perilous journey of the French explorer Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle who sailed west to establish a colony at the mouth of the Mississippi River in 1684. Commissioned by King Louis XIV, the expedition could have given the French a stronger presence in North America if successful, but piracy, poor navigation, and murder eventually doomed the expedition. In response, Spain renewed its interest in what would become Texas, changing the course of history. Dramatizing the story of La Salle’s ill-fated venture, the film reveals the personalities and struggles that beset the colony, all through the eyes of one of the few survivors of the expedition, 14-year old Pierre Talon. Popovich and the Voice of the Fabled American West- Sunday, 3:15 p.m. An ex circus legend, known as Popovich, is struggling as a street performer but content to come home to his junkyard full of furry friends. After a disingenuous neighbor surreptitiously calls animal control on him, Popovich must find a way to stay true to his calling, and save his loyal family of animal friends from a sad fate. Understanding the brevity of the situation, Popovich and his animal buddies use all their circus tricks to save their home and stay together. Touch a Truck (Round Rock)- 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The City of Round Rock’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a FREE Touch a Truck event for kids of all ages, giving children a unique opportunity to explore vehicles of all types – public service, emergency, utility, construction, transportation, delivery and just plain cool – all in one place. Participants will be allowed to touch, climb on and ask questions about their favorite trucks in a safe, supervised environment. Accompanying personnel will teach children about the equipment displayed and how these machines help us and our community. There will be a “no horn hour” from 1 to 2 p.m., for those with sensitive ears or who do not respond well to loud noises. In addition to the vehicles, there will be a Kids Fun Zone with various activities. Food and beverage vendors will also be onsite.Guests are encouraged to bring a canned food item donation to donate to the Round Rock Serving Center. Old Settlers Park, East Entrance, 700 N. Austin Bike Fest- 10 a.m.- noon. Austin BikeFest will showcase everything bicycle in Austin, Texas! FREE and open to all ages.
The day will open with a ribbon cutting of Austin’s newest multi-use path– the Southern Walnut Creek Trail. U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (Honorary BikeFest Grand Marshal), Mayor Lee Leffingwell, and other local leaders will cut the ribbon and inaugurate the trail. A family-friendly bike ride in three-mile, eight-mile and 16-mile distances entirely on this great new paved trail will follow the ribbon cutting, with hydration and snacks provided along the way.
