Once Upon a Mattress- Friday, 7 p.m., Saturday, 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m., If you thought you knew the story of “The Princess and The Pea”, you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that it may not have been the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of beguiling songs, but turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Ashes, Ashes at Scottish Rite Theater- Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., Nini lives in a steampunk world without sun, blue sky, trees or grass. All that was vibrant has been exploited and destroyed leaving behind a blanket of ashes and darkness. In her quest to save the world, Nini journeys into a mysterious underworld of coal mining shafts and caverns where living walls may hold the secret to life. On her adventure, she must summon all of her courage to meet the challenges that lie in front of her, to defeat the darkness and bring light and love back to the world above. Cenicienta at ZACH Theatre- Saturday, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Sunday at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Easily understood in English and Spanish, this bilingual stage-adaptation of Cinderella tackles culture, familia, and the power of language. Pecan Street Festival- Saturday and Sunday. The Pecan Street Festival is a FREE two-day arts festival held twice yearly in downtown Austin’s Sixth Street Historic District. Taking place the first weekend in May and the last weekend in September, the juried festival attracts hundreds of local and national artisans offering original handcrafted creations in a variety of mediums, from metal, wood, fiber, clay, leather, glass and stone to repurposed materials of all kinds. Lemonade Day Austin- Lemonade Day is a nation-wide event that teaches kids the skills they need to be successful in the future. Youth learn to set goals, develop a business plan, establish a budget, seek investors, provide customer service, and give back to the community. Williamson Museum Pioneer Day (Round Rock)- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Docents from the Williamson Museum will provide hands-on activities for all ages. Greek Festival at Central Market North Lamar- Greek Chalk Art from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Renowned local artist Jonathan Horstmann decorates our store-front sidewalks with Passport Greece-themed art. From noon to 3 p.m., local artist from Creative Action help children learn and enjoy the art of working with clay, just like the Ancient Greeks. Greek Art for Kids where kids can decorate their own Greek bracelets and headbands is also happening on the Cafe deck. Lake Travis Spring Fest- 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The biggest time in the smallest town! SpringFest is back at the Hill Country Galleria! Join us starting at 11am for kids performances on the main stage. Beer Garden Social- 2-4 p.m., The Austin History Center invites you to its Third Annual “Beer Garden Social” at Scholz Garden. This year’s program, “Music of the Civil War,” will feature performances of traditional Americana music from the Frontier Brigade Band, followed by a performance of traditional American Spirituals, a genre formed from slave songs as they working in the fields, by the local group Bells of Joy. The entire afternoon enjoy 19th Century youth games and activities brought to you by APL Youth Services. The event is FREE and open to the public and will feature a pop-up library with items from APL’s collection curated especially for the event. Rock n Roll Rentals Grand Opening- 4-8 p.m., The public is invited to attend special party in celebration of the company’s second location in the Austin area, which opened in early February 2015. The event will feature an outdoor stage with live music from local favorites: cosmic Latin DJ crew Peligrosa, the popular surf-influenced rock band Shivery Shakes, jazz hip-hop band MODAL, and more. Beyond the stellar music, there will be a variety of family-friendly events and activities for attendees of all ages. Austin Opera’s Don Giovanni- 3 p.m. Austin Opera culminates its 2014-15 Season with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s critically acclaimed dark comedy, Don Giovanni. Don Giovanni is both charismatic and repulsive in his cavalier manipulations of others. Family Fun Day at Art Garage- 3-6 p.m., The Art Garage hosts a Free Family Fun day where families are welcome to pop in and create crafts, get to know The Art Garage and enjoy in-studio discounts. This month’s theme is Let’s Get Campy. This is a fun, free activity for children to meet the teachers and see some of the fun art projects we will be creating this summer.
