Kerbey Lane Cafe Celebrates 35 Years- This May marks 35 years that Kerbey Lane Cafe has been making Austin greater with their delicious pancakes and queso. On May 4th from 6 a.m. to May 5th at 6 a.m., Kerbey Lane will donate 100% of net proceeds from ALL Austin locations to the United Way of Central Texas! In addition, there will be a fun birthday celebration at all locations from 6-8 p.m. on May 4th, complete with miniature horses, face painting and balloon animals. Baby Bloomers: Celebrate Cinco de Mayo- 9 a.m. to noon. Bring your party spirit and join us for a special celebration! Discover the culture and language associated with the celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Signing Storytime with The Signing Connection (Round Rock)- 10:00am – 10:30am., Join the Baby Signing Time revolution! This class is geared for children 0-5 years and their parents. Amy from the Signing Connection will lead this storytime that incorporates classic children’s books to help you learn basic American Sign Language signs. FREE! Baby Play Group at Baby Earth (Round Rock)- 3:30 p.m., We sing songs, play with musical instruments and let babies have lots of interactive, social, free-play time.  Since this class is designed for our smallest of customers to socialize, we encourage families with non-mobile, crawling and/or cruising babies to attend. Rockin’ Kids: LEGO Free Build (Round Rock)- 4:30-5:15 p.m., Monday afternoons the Library hosts a rotating set of activities that highlight science, technology, engineering, art, and math.. Explore Music (Round Rock)- 10:15 a.m. Designed to provide children with unique musical experiences, the 30-minute EXPLORE MUSIC class will incorporate group play and interaction, pre-K skills (sharing, following simple directions, attending-to-task, etc.) and dancing/movement to work on gross/fine motor skills.  While music is highly motivating, it can also have a calming and relaxing effect. Bug Out Storytime- 10:30 a.m., Today’s storytime is all about the creepy crawlies that live out in the garden and under the porch. That’s right, we’re talking about BUGS! It’s true that we don’t always like them in the house, but they make our gardens grow and the world would be a lot worse without them. Baby Day at The Alamo Drafthouse-  Movies before 2 p.m. The lights are up a bit, the sound is down a bit so moms and dads can head to the movies without the babies even knowing that they were at the movies. Infants are welcome to these shows, and of course, are allowed in for free. Take some time for yourself, pack up the kids, and head out to the Alamo Drafthouse for some much needed entertainment! Homeschool Gaming Group (Cedar Park)- 3 p.m., Homeschoolers ages 7+ are invited to the Library to get together and game!  Play Minecraft, Roblox, World of Warcraft, and more.  The Library will provide an Xbox, Wii U, and some laptops, but participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops, tablets, and devices as well. Discovery! Mad Science- 4:30 p.m., The Discovery hands on program explores all sorts of different topics, including science, literature, technology, and more.  Especially designed for our older kids (third graders and up), come back each week and learn something new! LEGO Mini Model Build – 5:00 p.m., Learn how to build a cool LEGO Koala model and take it home – for FREE! One per child. Event is open to children ages 6 to 14 only. Seventh Annual Cinco de Mayo Downtown Block Party-  5:00 to 9:00 p.m., The annual festival covers the entire block of West Second Street between Guadalupe and San Antonio, and celebrates the rich heritage and culture of Mexico with food, beverages, and entertainment for all ages.  With more than 5,000 in attendance in 2014, this year1s Downtown Block Party returns with live performances by Mariachi Relampago, Celsius, Gina Chavez, Bidi Bidi Banda & Cilantro Boombox, in addition to face painting and a photobooth along the street of the celebration.  La Condesa will also serve a menu featuring grilled Mexican street corn, taquitos, and more from the restaurant’s taco truck, El Cubico. Stephen F. LEGO Lab- 5 p.m., With Legos, you can build anything you can imagine and tell any story you can dream up. Homeschool Teen Group: Craft Night (Pflugerville)- 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.,  Homeschool teens ages 12-18 are invited to join the Homeschool Teen Group. Cinco de May Celebration and Salsa Showdown-  6:30 – 8:00 p.m.  Families will enjoy free games, crafts, music, door prizes and food while learning about the Mexican heritage. Music with Mar (Round Rock)- 9:15 a.m., Music with Mar. is a class where a caregiver and child (ages birth through preschool) participate together in musical activities. These classes are focused on the four main areas of development – cognitive, social, motor and language. Classes are drop-in, so no advance sign-up needed. The class costs $10/family, payable directly to Angie, the class leader. Cost: $10 per family or  5-class punch card is $35/family. Sprouts Preschool Program – 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., Bring your little ones to the Family Garden for our weekly Sprouts Preschool program that is geared towards ages 2-6. A Nature Play Guide will lead you through the Family Garden to explore all that it has to offer. Each program will include story time, hands on activity, nature walk and of course, nature play! Families with preschoolers can join Anjoli Fry, education coordinator at the Center,,to explore the world of plant parts and wildflowers by using shapes and patterns as the vehicle! Families also learn how a flower makes seeds and take a hand-held pollinator pal out for a wildflower walk to help with pollination. Regular admission rates apply. Mother Earth Day Festival at the Springs- 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Designed for environmental awareness and fun, especially relating to Barton Springs and Barton Creek, with a special emphasis on water conservation. Tiny Tails Petting Zoo at Safari Champ (Round Rock)- 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Austin’s Traveling Petting Zoo offers a story time, 15-20 minutes of holding and petting our adorable animals, an age-appropriate educational animal craft or activity (music or easy animal pose movements!). Ballet Austin’s Swan Lake- Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m., Saturday, May 9 at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m. Join us Mother’s Day weekend for the exquisite and iconic classic… Swan Lake. It’s the timeless tale of love and loss on everyone’s “ballet bucket list.” Performing ballets on Mother’s day weekend has become a Ballet Austin tradition, and offers everyone a unique and special way to spend Mother’s day. The Opening Night in Black & White takes place Friday May 8, from 6-11 p.m. Pick a color and show your true nature at the official kick-off to Ballet Austin’s production of the world’s most famous ballet, Swan Lake. A Look Ahead: Weekend Events

Pollyana Theatre’s The Big Bolt- May 9-17, 2015 with a special Scout performance on Mother’s Day,  Sunday, May 10. This production is written and designed specifically to appeal to the developmental and educational needs of very young children ages 3 – 7. The play explores the concept of cause and effect as well as basic pre-math concepts through the story of a little girl named Jimmi. Jimmi discovers what can happen when a seemingly unimportant but very big bolt is taken out of its intended place. Long Center for Performing Arts, 701 W. Riverside Drive.

Dia de los Madres (Round Rock)- Saturday, May 9, from 10:00  a.m. to 1:00 p.m., The event features a performance by The Biscuit Brothers,  Hopewell Middle School mariachi group, the Isaac Sisters and Round Rock Ballet Folklorico. Other activities include: arts and crafts for kids, a chance to take pictures with mom, and free carnations for mothers. The event promises to be full of music and fun for the entire family! FREE! Touch-a-Truck- Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Touch-A-Truck is a family friendly event that hosts a wide variety of vehicles for kids of all ages to play on while learning about the automobiles and how they help serve their communities. This year’s Touch-A-Truck will feature — in addition to the vehicles — live music, plenty of food trucks, and a Kid Zone complete with a petting zoo, face painting, barrel-train rides and much more. Touch-A-Truck is a fun way for families to bond as their children explore vehicles they have seen in movies, books, or just driving down the street. But more than that, the event raises funds for essential programs within Austin Children’s Services. Cost: $5 per person. $20 for VIP. Camp Mabry, 2200 W 35th Street.

Family Day at  Harry Ransom Center- Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Visit Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and enjoy activities for the young and young at heart. Participate in writing activities with teaching artists from Austin Public Library Friends Foundation’s Badgerdog Creative Writing Program or engage with Lewis Carroll-inspired math activities with local math literacy organization Math Happens. University of Texas at Austin museum theater students lead visitors through the galleries. Additional activities include docent-led exhibition tours and story times in the theater.  Family days are generously supported by a grant from the Austin Community Foundation, with in-kind support provided by Terra Toys. 28th Annual O. Henry Pun-Off- Saturday, May 9, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Come celebrate a day of wordplay at the O. Henry Museum.  Minor Mishap Marching Band as the live musical act at 11 a.m.  Competition runs from noon to 6 p.m. There will be food trucks, a used-book sale, and lots of mind-boggling wit. FREE!O. Maifest- Saturday, May 9, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Join the German Free School for a family friendly festival celebrating spring with The Don Harms Marionette show (Shows at 1 & 3 pm), Face-painting, Raffles, Kid’s Costume Contests & Parades, Balloons & Games. Children are encouraged to wear a costume & bring their favorite stuffed animal or toy. Afternoon High Tea at Cafe Ruckus- Sunday, May 10 at 11 a.m., 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. The special tradition of taking afternoon tea continues in the heart of downtown Austin. Tea time happens every Sunday afternoon when Cafe Ruckus transforms into a Victorian tea room. Step back in time as you sip bottomless cups of loose leaf tea, nibble on delicate finger sandwiches and indulge in decadent desserts presented on a three-tiered server. Flying Theater Machine: Three Wishes- Sunday, May 10, 2 p.m. Three Wishes uses suggestions from audience members to inspire the story of a group of kids who happen upon a playfully mischievous genie. Will they get what they’ve always wished for or will they discover they had what they wanted all along? Please join us for Three Wishes and see what happens when our wildest dreams come true! In these fully improvised stories, we’ll find many opportunities for the children in the audience (and sometimes their adults!) to participate and guide the story and even play on stage! Blanton Museum of Art Drop-in Public Tour, Special Themed Tour: Mother’s Day- Sunday, May 10, from 3-4 p.m., This is special-themed tour celebrating Mother’s Day. A designed tour to celebrate motherhood (and grandmotherhood), care-giving, children and family, and more. Free with museum admission.

Moms Skate FREE at Playland Skate Center-  Sunday, May 10th. Playland Skate Center will be celebrating moms during our Sunday session from 12 noon to 5pm. Admission for moms is free with a paid child’s admission. Make it a family event or a special outing for mom and kids! Either way, it’s going to be great because mom doesn’t have to pay and she’ll get to spend time with her loved ones roller skating. As an added bonus, the little ones can play in the soft play indoor playground!

Music Under the Star- Sunday, May 10, 4-7:30 p.m. Bring your family, a picnic dinner, and a blanket or chairs to the Bullock Texas State History Museum every Sunday in May to enjoy free music concerts presented by the American Federation of Musicians. All concerts are free, family-friendly and highlight local musical talent. Mother’s Day at the Capitol- Sunday, May 10, from 7-8 p.m.What better way to close out a great day with Mom than by taking her to a free concert at the Texas State Capitol in her honor?
