Ahead of their upcoming EU tour later this year, which includes a string of UK dates in late September, Copenhagen trio Lust For Youth share their video for ‘New Boys’. The track is taken from the band’s ‘International’ LP, which was released earlier this year via Sacred Bones Records.

Speaking about the video, director Frederik Valentin said:

“For the narcotic summer vibe tune “New Boys” I saw no other option than making a video featuring my 11-year-old kid brother, presenting the Danish nature and the innocent beauty of his adolescence.

To do so my brother and I spent our first vacation together. On our way, we filmed at numerous locations all over Denmark. We traveled from the North Sea in Jutland, crossing the Island of Fuen and Kissendrup to finish back home at Seeland, Amager, outside the city of Copenhagen. We shot the sunset of Lohals, a small village with 468 inhabitants on the edge of Langeland. The light during the sunset is a Mecca and a well-known secret by Scandinavian landscape painters, celebrated for its transcendent light and blissful atmosphere. No two sunsets ever appear to be the same.”

To put it bluntly, Lust For Youth’s ‘International’ is unrecognisable as a Lust For Youth record on first listen. Frontman Hannes Norrvide’s previous solo albums under the Lust for Youth moniker have been described as “dark, cold, atonal, tormented, lonely, and lower than lo-fi.” The approach on ‘International’ has shifted dramatically. Writing as a three-piece now, with longtime live collaborator Loke Rahbek and new band member Malthe Fischer, who produces and plays guitar, LFY have entered a completely new territory. The result is stunning. ‘International’ is a buoyant synth masterpiece in the vein of early Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys and New Order. Norrvide’s work has always had pop sensibilities buried deep in the reverb, but the hooks are front and center on International, and there is nothing lo-fi about it.

International is Norrvide’s magnum opus, and with Fischer’s production and Rahbek’s co-writing skills, the potential this band has always shown has been gloriously realised.

‘International’ is available on CD and LP (white vinyl in the UK and EU only), and the LP comes with a download remix EP featuring reworks of LFY tracks by Marshstepper, Silent Servant, Total Control,Helm & Cult of Youth amongst others. The digital remix EP is available as a deluxe digital version of the album.
