Years ago in Covent Garden I bought this bird cage from the loveliest of shops which I hope is still there, they did loads of pretty things like this and it's where I first fell in love with all things Sass and Belle. I had previously had my bird cage hanging from my ceiling in my old bedroom at my parents, but decided it was time to give it a clean up and new lease of life with a good old DIY.

After browsing Pinterest for all things bird cage related, I found lots of lovely ideas incorporating candles and flowers, which also seem to be a popular wedding trend. As my bird cage has a supporting beam in the middle, I struggled to fit candles around it, so opted to instead use the beam to my advantage and wind around some faux peonies flowers.

I started by separating the flowers into individual strands where I could strip back the plastic with some pliers to reveal the wire which allowed me to wind around each section to the middle beam. By having the beam as support it allowed the flowers to be a bit more lifted so that they didn't all just fall to the bottom.

I'm really pleased with how it all turned out and it's a nice way to brighten up what was previously just an empty cage. I've currently got it sitting on my dressing table with my perfume bottles, but I'd love to have it hanging up again and maybe add some fairy lights into the mix!

What do you think? Do you have a birdcage you'd like to do a DIY like this with? Let me know if you give it a try in the comments!
