All of us have seen cartoons in our early days. Many of us would simply freeze while watching our favourite cartoon shows and not move a bit. At times even forget to gulp the morsel while eating and watching it. It is sad how one by one all the old 1990’s shows disappeared from the television. Most of us do have a memory with at least one of the cartoon shows, so here is a list of top 10 most memorable children’s cartoon shows.

10. Tom and Jerry

Tom and Jerry has always been an all time favourite for everyone. Many of us even watched it with our parents. The main characters of this show were Tom, the mischievous cat and Jerry, the quick and sharp rat. The whole show revolved around Tom always chasing and plotting plans to catch Jerry and Jerry in turn acting smart in some or the other way and escaping from Tom’s paws. Also at times, Jerry would himself go and create problems for Tom and irritate him. Tom would catch Jerry to impress some neighbourhood cat. This is probably one of the only shows that are still telecasted since olden times and thus, the cat and mouse chase was a hit and was always a full house at home since people of all age groups would sit and watch it together.

9. Richie Rich

This show was all about the various adventures of a rich boy named Richie along with his family and friends. He is the only son of the affluent Mr. And Mrs. Rich and thus owns almost everything that money can buy. There were various thieves who always made strategies to either somehow kidnap Richie or break into his palatial house and take away all the money from the cabinet. He has his own butler named Cadbury, his own mechanical robotic maid named Irona and a scientist named Professor Keenbean who invented new devices for Richie. Everything that Richie owned was made of gold, from his safety pins to plates, from his car to his very own personalized spaceship and other gadgets and goodies. His garden itself had bushes and shrubs all cut into the shape of dollar. Richie had his own different breed of a dog named Dollar who was a ‘Dollarmatian’. Like a Dalmatian, his dog had spots which looked like dollar signs. Gloria Glad was Richie’s best friend, perhaps his girlfriend and they would always stay together. Together with his friends and gadgets Richie was triumphant through different adventures and always managed to keep his family and wealth safe.

8. Johnny Bravo

Johnny Bravo was a bachelor body builder who was totally into impressing women. He was supposed to be the male illustration of the conventional “dumb blonde” with his superficial tricks to impress women. He was typically known for his fast body movements that he made while impressing women and his favourite “hu-ha” and “Ohh Momma!”. He was over confident about himself and believed that he was the best man a woman could get. This was all because of his mom Mrs. Bunny Bravo who was a bizarre woman full of energy. She thought her son to be the most perfect man in the world in spite of the fact that he would always be unsuccessful in finding a girlfriend for himself. Though Johnny Bravo tries to impress other women, Lil’ Suzy, a young eight year old already had a huge crush on Johnny. He was a classic permutation of a liberated energetic, self obsessed, biceps bulging guy who would always end up in trouble and become his own fate’s enemy.

7. Spongebob Squarepants

Spongebob is a joyful, happy-go-lucky sea sponge who lives in Bikini Bottom, the underwater city, inside a pineapple. He works at a restaurant named “The Krusty Krab”. He is immature and low on IQ. He infuriates people near him, though he does not mean any of it. He has a huge mouth with front buck teeth and freckles on his cheeks. He is a resolute person who goes till any extent to complete his goals. He has many extraordinary aptitudes like fry cooking, bubble blowing, driving, absorbent, regeneration, soft body among many others. Together with his friends and neighbours like Patrick star, Squidward Tentacles, Sandy Cheeks, Eugene Harold Krabs, Gary the snail and Sheldon Plankton, Spongebob made living under the sea an astonishing experience.

6. Dexter’s Laboratory

Dexter is a ten year old boy who is born with a genius brain. He has built up his very own laboratory, hidden behind a bookshelf in his room, where he experiments and invents new things. The story revolves around the main characters which are Dexter and his elder sister Dee Dee who is an energetic teenager who is always inquisitive about whatever Dexter does. She loves ballet and is also displayed like that in the show with her height being almost thrice that of Dexter. His lab was an extremely high tech one and thus he kept it hidden (underground) for the terror of getting exploited. Another guy called Mandark, who is also shown as a scholar, is in constant efforts of taking over Dexter’s laboratory. At the same time he is madly in love with Dee Dee (in spite of knowing the fact that she is really irritating at times). Dexter does not really have many friends but he does not mind that because the machines and chemicals in his lab are his true friends.

5. Popeye the sailor man

The whole plot of this cartoon show revolves around Popeye, the lead character who eats spinach to gain strength and face challenging situations. Bluto is the bully who creates problems for Popeye by troubling Olive Oyl, the love of Popeye. At the end of each episode, Popeye would somehow open a can of spinach, eat it up, gain strength and teach Bluto a lesson and save Olive. Popeye adopts an orphan named Swee’Pee. Wellington Wimpy is portrayed as a selfish person who can think of nothing else but a free sandwich. Together all these characters create an exhilarating plot and adventures.

4. The Jetsons

This show was created in 1962 and was set up in 2062, exactly 100 years later. The plot was about the adventures of a futuristic, ultramodern and revolutionary family. The main characters, George Jetson, Jane Jetson (his wife), daughter Judy and son Elroy were based in sky-high Orbit city. They depicted a middle class family of future times with flying cars, robots and various gadgets. They were just a button away from getting their work done in seconds. This show was enjoyed by the children since it was very innovative and dealt with new gadgets and technology in almost every episode. Judy attends Orbit High School and is a fashionista who has a new boyfriend every time. Elroy attends Little Dipper Elementary School and is a genius. He is technology friendly and likes inventing new creations. He keeps himself busy in sports and with the family dog, Astro. Jane is helped by Rosie in the household chores. The Jetsons love her and treat her like a family member.

3. The Powerpuff Girls

Sugar, spice, and everything nice, plus an unintentional drop of chemical X by Professor Utonium creates three powerpuff girls. They are kindergarten superhuman girls who were created to destroy evil and dedicated their lives to fighting crime and forces of immorality. Blossom: the responsible one, Bubbles: the cute and kiddish one and Buttercup: the arrogant fighter. The girls have large eyes and wear dresses with a black belt. Though they are superheroes, they remind you of apparently undisruptive little girls who go to Pokey Oaks Kindergarten and are taught by Ms. Keane. These three girls together save Townsville from monsters, robbers, gross things, would-be conquerors and other disasters. They had a smiling hot line telephone which was directly connected to the Mayor’s office. Whenever the city was in trouble, the girls would use their powers and somehow manage to save their city. One of the main villains of this show was a monkey named Mojo Jojo. Seduca, Rowdyruff Boys, The Gangreen Gang, Princess Morbucks, Fuzzy Lumpkins, The Amoeba Boys and HIM were a few other villains among others. The episodes revolved around the powerpuff girls’ activities and the way they saved the people from getting robbed or being cheated upon.

2. Scooby doo

Scooby is basically a Great Dane who was the mascot for the mystery solving group of kids named: Freddy Jones- the confident leader, Daphne Blake- accident prone, Velma Dinkley- bookworm and Shaggy Rogers- hungry slacker. They all had a van of their own named “The Mystery Machine” and together solved many scary mysteries on their way. The cartoon was an amalgamation of heavy horror and light comedy. The kids would go around ghost towns, abandoned amusement parks and haunted houses to find clues and solve the case. If not for these kids, the villains would have gotten away with their scary deeds. Scooby and Shaggy shared a lot in common and thus were the best of friends. They both were always hungry and were scared all the time. Usually, Scooby was tempted to go after the monsters by giving Scooby snacks, which was a dog snack, a treat for Scooby. Scooby pronounced most of the words with an “R”. He was famous for his, “Rooby-Rooby-Roo” (Scooby-Dooby-Doo) and “Yiikes”. The show also involved Scooby’s little nephew named Scrappy Doo. Instead of pulling out the team from troubles, he always created them. Scooby was very protective for him and prevented him from going places.

1. The Flintstones

This cartoon revolves around the adventures of a modern stone age family and friends. It was more of a depiction on modern suburban life, set in the Stone Age. The key interesting point that this show generated among the kids was the imagination of how things were long time back. They owned a car which was interesting, as it had to be moved by their own feet in spite of having steamroller wheels, to smooth out the rocky path. The main characters in the show were Fred and Wilma Flintstones, who were later blessed with a baby girl, Pebbles. She was a happy and healthy cave baby who with her charm always managed to get whatever she wanted through her dad. The family was best friends with the Rubbles. Betty and Barney Rubble also adopt a baby boy named Bamm Bamm, who was the tough toddler in the city of Bedrock. Fred used to operate a dinosaur powered crane at Rock Hard & Quarry Cave Construction Co. The housewives used vacuum cleaners, which were basically baby elephants who sucked the dirt through its long trunk. “Yabba-Dabba-Doo” was the most famous phrase from this show which was the best one liner of Fred Flintstone. They owned a pet dinosaur named Dino, who never let Fred sleep in peace after a hard day’s work. He would always knock Fred out of the house at night and himself sleep on Fred’s bed.
