Please join the School District 54 Literacy Team and the Schaumburg Township District Library for our Family Literacy Night at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.

This event is for parents and students in early childhood through second grade to engage in a variety of fun activities that revolve around reading and writing. Parents will learn strategies they can use at home to promote and reinforce early literacy skills. Library staff will provide library card applications (in English & Spanish); and families can leave with library cards. This class will be presented in English and Spanish.

Family Literacy Night is the first presentation this year for the Schaumburg Parent University. Research is clear that parental involvement is critical for children’s academic success, as well as for developing strong internal values and sense of self that results in a healthy, well-adjusted citizen. In order to achieve these outcomes, School District 54 is in our ninth year of offering a selection of courses for parents which range from addressing family dynamics to learning a new family skill or craft.
