Hello Wonderful Link Community!

Each month we focus on a particular characteristic of excellence and encourage students and staff to grow in this area.  This month we are focused on Speaking with Good Purpose.  We expect everyone at Link to speak honestly and kindly to one another, and we celebrate students and staff each week who have shown this trait of excellence.  Take some time today to talk with your child about how he/she can continue to speak with good purpose whether on the bus, in the hallways, in the classroom or any other place.  Thank you for your continued support, as we know that partnering with families is critical when promoting excellence in our students.

Erin’s Law

Again this year, we will be implementing a child sexual abuse prevention program in our schools as the result of the passage of Public Act 097-1147, also known as Erin’s Law. This law expanded upon previous legislation and required child sexual abuse prevention education for children beginning in pre-kindergarten and continuing through all grade levels.  Please read THIS letter for more information.

Schaumburg Parent University – September Classes

Schaumburg Parent University (SPU) is designed to involve more parents in the life of the school, to strengthen family relationships, and to improve parenting skills that will ultimately result in improved student success academically, socially and emotionally. There are two evening programs scheduled for September.

Family Literacy Night. Join the District 54 Literacy Team and the Schaumburg Township District Library for fun reading and writing activities. Parents will also learn strategies they can use at home to reinforce literacy skills. This program is for children in early childhood through second grade and their parents from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.

Youth Suicide: A Community Conversation about Awareness and Prevention. The chairs of the District 54 Crisis Team will explore the warning signs, risk factors and steps individuals can take to prevent youth suicide in our community. This class for adults only will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.

Childcare will be available. For more information about Schaumburg Parent University and to register, visit our website at http://sd54.org/spu.

Run to Read

District 54 is hosting its 11th annual Run to Read, which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015 at Dirksen Elementary School in Schaumburg. The day includes 100-yard and 400-yard dashes for children at 8 a.m., a 5K run at 8:45 a.m. and a 1-mile family walk at 9 a.m. Although you can register at any time, even the morning of the race, you will save $5 and be guaranteed a T-shirt in the size you requested if you register by Sept. 4. The Run to Read is an awesome opportunity to promote healthy living by encouraging your children to exercise, or even better, by joining them on the walk or run. The event also supports our goal of collecting 1,000 children’s books for every classroom in District 54. To register online, visit http://sd54.org/runtoread.  Come and represent the Link community alongside the Link staff!
