Celebrated for his unique use of print, craftsmanship and seasonal feminine collections, Erdem has created unique sunglasses in collaboration with Linda Farrow Gallery. For the Pre-Fall callection, Erdem created Cat Eyes with a twist, with circular acetate frames which are enhanced by playful metal construction and unique geometric cut out temples. For the latest Designer Series feature for the Linda Farrow Diary, we talked to Erdem Moralioğlu, the founder and creative director of the eponymous London-based ready-to-wear label Erdem.

LF: Can you share an obsession? When / why did it start and how is it effecting your day-to-day?

EM: Books, I have a substantial collection. They are slowly taking over my office...

LF: We often treat ourselves to a luxury when marking an occasion, and engrave the moment in our memory as a pleasure. What is your luxury of choice when it comes to celebrations?

EM: Art - I collect contemporary photography. I bought a beautiful Wolfgang Tillmans recently as a present to myself.

LF In your opinion, what are the main ideas that are being discussed now in the fashion industry that we will see guiding the future of fashion?

EM: I think creating clothes that have a human hand and are well-crafted is becoming increasingly important. It is certainly something I focus on in my collections.

LF: Dressing up is an art of many shapes: from hiding to exposing, accentuating to creating illusions. What is the relationship you aim to create between your items and their users?

EM: I always aim to create pieces that make women feel special or beautiful. I believe it's about creating an object of desire.

LF: How important is imagination in the process of design and product development? Would you take time to explore your imagination? Would you do any exercises to arouse the imagination?

EM: I think it’s very important. I always think up a story when I am designing a collection. SS13 revolved around an army of super chic extra-terrestrials trying to fit into a 1950’s world. A narrative is important to bring everything together.
