Billy Allen Clippard

Billy Allen Clippard, 65, of Gastonia, passed away September 7, 2016 at his residence.

He was born August 12, 1951 in Lincoln County, the son of the late TP Clippard and Martha Tallent.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Janis Garrison Clippard; sons, Billy A. Clippard, Jr. and Joseph W. Clippard of Lincolnton; daughter, Barbara C. Black of Lincolnton; step-daughters, Melisa D. Herron of Ranlo and Freda Doolittle of Vale; sisters, Teresa Hollar, Vickie Hull of Lincolnton; brother, Gene Clippard of Lincolnton ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and former spouse, Joann Sherrifield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Lee Clippard and grandson David Clippard.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

Ruby Allen Poteat

Ruby Allen Poteat, age 80, of 172 Hauss Road in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, September 7, 2016.

Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Hull officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. this evening, September 9, 2016, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Ruby was born October 31, 1935, in Cleveland County, to the late Jasper Loren and Cecil Bowen Allen. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bob Poteat; two daughters, Kelly Morgan and Susan Hedrick. She worked in textiles for thirty plus years.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Heavner of Lincolnton; and two grandchildren, Joshua Hedrick and Josey Morgan, both of Lincolnton.

Dr. Bob Stevenson

Dr. Robert McLelland Stevenson, 82, of Statesville, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born September 17, 1933, he was the son of the late Robert Rockwell Stevenson and Rachel McLelland Stevenson. He graduated from Scotts High School Class of 1951, Davidson College Class of 1955 and U.N.C. Chapel Hill Medical School Class of 1959.

On July 15, 1961, he was married to Judith (Judy) Whisenant Stevenson who died March 7, 2014.

Dr. Stevenson did his Medical Residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va. from 1959 until 1963. In 1964 he came to Davis Hospital in Statesville where he presided over the Radiology Department until called into the U. S. Army from 1967 until 1969 during the Vietnam War.

Following his service to his country he became the first full-time Radiologist at the new Lincoln County Hospital where he stayed until 1979. While in Lincolnton he was an avid pee-wee football coach and established the Rotary Rams little league football program from 1972 to 1979.

In 1979 he returned to his home County (Iredell) and Davis Hospital where he continued to work until 2003.

Following that he traveled to many different cities in North Carolina to help with Radiology. He retired from active work in 2008. Dr. Stevenson was a past president of the Statesville Rotary Club and was also a Paul Harris Fellow.

Dr. Stevenson was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed having a big garden on his farm. He was an avid hunter and rifleman and was a founding member of the Iredell Gun Club. He is survived by four sons, Charles (Chuck) Joseph Stevenson of Statesville, John Gregory Stevenson and wife, Sterling, of Charlotte, Robert (Rob) Blake Stevenson and James (Jim) McLelland Stevenson, both of Statesville; also surviving are two grandsons, Banks and Mac Stevenson of Charlotte; along with two brothers-in-law, Charles L. (Chub) Whisenant of Tampa, Fla., and Gregory A. Whisenant (Jan) of Lincolnton; one sister-in-law, Cindy Moose (John) of Belmont; and two nieces, Megan Moose and Mandy Goodwin (Jason).

Services celebrating the life of Dr. Stevenson will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2016 at Concord Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kyle Goodman and Rev. Grant Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Sunday evening at Nicholson Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Active pallbearers will be his sons: Chuck, Jim and John Stevenson, Rondal Lineberger, Shawn Fleming, Frederick Frey, Shannon St. Clair and Kenneth Herndon. Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Stevenson and Lentz Waugh.

Mr. Joseph Lee Wingate, age 67, of 6041 Pinebark Court in Charlotte, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Wingate was born March 20, 1949, in Lincoln County, to the late Rev. James Franklin Wingate, Sr. and Ethel Wilson Wingate. He worked for, and retired from, Continental Tire after 33 years of service.

He is survived by his children, Indira Houser of Lincolnton, Sean Jarrett of Gastonia, Kelly L. Charles of Charlotte, and Joey Carroll of Lincolnton; three brothers, Jerome Wingate of Charlotte, Charles Wingate of Lincolnton, and James Franklin Wingate, Jr. of Lincolnton; three sisters, Phyllis Wingate of Kannapolis, Kathleen Wingate of Lincolnton, and Carol Farley of Charlotte; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
