Lincolnton’s boys basketball team is unbeaten no more.

Jalen Connor scored 24 points and Tyoun Shuford added 20 as Newton-Conover defeated the visiting Wolves 69-55 on Tuesday to hand them their first loss of the season.

The Red Devils (8-5, 3-2) led 22-15 after the first quarter, and used a 17-8 fourth to put it away.

Robbie Cowie led Lincolnton with 18 points, Quavis Phelps added 17 and Cordell Littlejohn scored 10. The loss dropped the Wolves into a tie for second in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference with West Caldwell, which fell to league-leading East Lincoln, 56-50.

Lincolnton (9-1, 3-1) hosts North Gaston tonight.

LINCOLN CHARTER 68, PINE LAKE PREP 39: At Lincoln Charter, the Eagles remained unbeaten in the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference with the win.

Kody Shubert scored 14 points, Logan Foster added 12 and Kevin Walsh scored 10 for Lincoln Charter. D.J. Camp led Pine Lake Prep with 11.

Lincoln Charter (11-4, 3-0) hosts South Iredell today.
WEST LINCOLN 68, MAIDEN 58: At West Lincoln, the Rebels earned their first SD-7 win of the season.

Matt Bumgarner scored 22 points and Dylan Frady added 20 for West Lincoln, which outscored the Blue Devils 25-7 in the decisive second quarter. Harry Huddleston added 10 points for the Rebels, and Chase Willis led Maiden with 17.

West Lincoln (4-9, 1-4) travels to Bandys on Friday.
MOORESVILLE 60, NORTH LINCOLN 33: At Mooresville, the Blue Devils beat the Knights in a North Piedmont 3A/4A game. No other details were reported.

North Lincoln (4-8, 0-4) travels to Lake Norman on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

WEST LINCOLN 52, MAIDEN 39: At West Lincoln, the Rebels earned their second SD-7 win.

Kylee Leonhardt scored 22 points and Erin Huff and Heather Truesdale added eight points each for the Rebels, who used a 16-2 third quarter to pull away. Truesdale added five rebounds, two steals and a block, and Leonhardt hit 8 of 12 from the field.

West Lincoln (7-6, 2-3) travels to Bandys on Friday.
NEWTON-CONOVER 49, LINCOLNTON 39: At Newton-Conover, the Red Devils remained undefeated in SD-7 play.

Saylor Whitesides led the Wolves with 15 points with Mikayla Dyson added nine.

Lincolnton (6-5, 3-2) hosts North Gaston today.
WEST CALDWEL 55, EAST LINCOLN 48: At West Caldwell, the Warriors earned their first win of the season after outscoring the Mustangs 14-7 in the final seven minutes. No other details were reported.

East Lincoln (1-10, 0-4) travels to Maiden on Friday.

WRESTLING

TOP DAWG REGISTRATION: Registration for the Top Dawg wrestling club will be held on Jan. 14 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the old West Lincoln gym. Cost is $50, which includes membership in USA Wrestling, insurance, a subscription to USA Wrestling magazine and a T-shirt. Practices will be held each Wednesday beginning the night of registration, so bring a T-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes. The season will conclude with the Top Dawg Challenge tournament on March 14 at West Lincoln.
