Dorothy Miller Cornwell
COLFAX — Dorothy Miller Cornwell, age 96, of 1675 John Knox Drive in Colfax, and formerly of Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014, in Hollybrook Cemetery.
Mrs. Cornwell was born May 10, 1917, to the late Frank Mills Miller and Isabelle Hipson Miller. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Amos Halsted Cornwell and son, Amos Halsted “Chip” Cornwell Jr. She was born in Morristown, N.J., and later moved to Bethlehem, Pa. Mrs. Cornwell graduated from Duke University then lived in Lincolnton for 63 years where she worked as a bookkeeper for Cornwell Drugs. She served as an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church, served as past President and volunteer for Christian Ministries, volunteered for Hospice of Lincoln County, and was a supporter of Amy’s House. After moving to Greensboro, she volunteered for Pathway Ministries. Mrs. Cornwell has lived for the last eleven years at River Landing at Sandy Ridge Road in Colfax.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Hill and Jane Warren and husband Steve, all of Greensboro; grandchildren and their spouses, Brett Weathersbee and husband Wes, Eric Warren and wife Cari, Kent Warren and wife Annie; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Weathersbee, Nicholas Weathersbee, Grace Weathersbee, Finley Warren, Murphy Jane Warren, Bo Warren, and Sally Warren.

Gloria Salerno Dumproff
Gloria Salerno Dumproff, 72, of Nokomis, Fla., passed away Saturday April 12, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mae Salerno and her husband of 38 years, Frank Dumproff.
She is survived by her children, John Dumproff and wife Valerie of Louisburg, Krista Gantt and husband Scott of Crystal River, Fla., Erika Land and husband, Steve of Lincolnton, Karen Hatten and husband Rick of Fort Valley, Ga., and Glenn Dumproff and wife Kathy of Jacksonville, Fla. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; one great grandchild and brothers, Eugene Salerno and wife Mary Linda of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Alfred Salerno and wife Florence of Sea Cliff, N.Y.
The family will be conducting a private memorial service at a future date.

Hedrick ‘Bud’ Miller Faggart Jr.
Hedrick “Bud” Miller Faggart Jr., 86, of Mooresville, entered into his heavenly home on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at his home surrounded by love.
Bud was born in Charlotte on June 3, 1927 to Hedrick Miller and Carrie Miller Faggart, who preceded him in death, and his sister, Mary Ann (Faggart) Boesch.
He was a 1945 graduate of Charlotte’s Old Central High School and served his country in the US Coast Guard stationed in the Atlantic.
Bud was married to his sweetheart Donna Foard Faggart for 51 years before her passing on June 16, 1999.
Mr. Faggart’s business years involved mechanical contracting, culminating in the formation of his own company. He was a member of several related trade organizations.
Bud was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and later became a charter member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church both of Charlotte. After relocating to Mooresville, he faithfully attended at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church since 1991. Bud participated in several mission trips, both domestic and foreign. He volunteered on Habitat for Humanity builds. He loved to travel and went on many trips which gave him fond memories.
Bud is survived by a son, Edward Faggart and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Sarah and David all of Lincolnton; sister, Frances Faggart Green of Muskegon, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Faggart and the family were blessed by the love and support of hospice.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Sylvia Evon Black Lloyd, age 72, of 1498 S. Aspen Street in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Hardin Community Baptist Church with Rev. Clay Ledford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Sylvia was born February 12, 1942, in Gaston County to the late Ralph and Louise Garrison Black. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Lloyd. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, John “Doug” Lloyd of Lincolnton; a daughter, April Lloyd of Lincolnton; a brother, Gary Black of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Paulette Moore of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Bernice Burgin of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Grayson Melson and Samantha Melson and Cameron Lloyd and Cambie Lloyd.

James Lowman
James Lowman, 93, of Cherryville died April 23, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center – Lincoln in Lincolnton.
Born April 19, 1921 in Granville County, he was a son of the late Darling Lowman and Emma Lowman. He was retired as a long line driver from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation after 36 years of service. Mr. Lowman was a member of Second Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He served in the US Marines in Iwo Jima during WWII and received a purple heart.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary E. Lowman; son, Mark Lowman; son-in-law, Randy Ford and grandson, Greg Ford.
Survivors include a son, Richard Lowman and wife, Kathy of Rutherford College; four daughters, Charlene Franklin and husband, Derry of Valdese, Mackie Lowman, Debbie Nantz, and Joette Ford all of Cherryville; eight grandchildren, Butch Franklin, Chip Russo, Angie Barrier, Tammy Russo, Laura Brittain, James Ford, Emily Reed and Jason Nantz; eight great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren and sister, Virginia Hinshaw of New Bern.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. this evening at Stamey~Cherryville Funeral Home, Cherryville. At other times the family will be at the home of Joette Ford, 403 Houser Street, Cherryville. A funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Stamey~Cherryville Funeral Home, Cherryville. Officiating will be Revs. Jerry Lail, Keith Love and Michael White. Burial will follow in the City Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors.

Dorothy Reid O’Neal Morgan
McCORMICK, S.C. — Dorothy Reid O’Neal Morgan, wife of the late Charles Cothran Morgan Jr., of McCormick, S.C., departed this life and entered eternity on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.
Friends will be received by her family on Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. in the church hall of McCormick First Baptist.
A Service to Honor and celebrate her life will be held following the visitation on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. in the church, officiating will be the Rev. Allam Marreddy and the Rev. Douglas Kauffman. Interment will follow in the McCormick City Cemetery.
Mrs. Morgan was the daughter of the late Joseph Millard O’Neal and Ida Etheridge O’Neal of Selma, born October 19, 1923. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Millard O’Neal Jr. of Roanoke Rapids.
She was an honor graduate of Brenau College with majors in Chemistry and in French. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
Mrs. Morgan was reared in the Presbyterian Church, but, after her marriage, became a member of the McCormick First Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years. She was an active participant in the cultural, social and charitable organizations of McCormick, taking leadership roles in many of them.
Surviving Mrs. Morgan are her four children, Charles Cothran Morgan III of Abbeville, S.C., Joseph O’Neal Morgan and his wife Karen of Lincolnton, Diane Morgan Brower and her husband Robert of Gainesville, Ga. and James Michael Morgan and his wife Nancy of Abbeville, S.C.; four grandchildren, Jeremy O’Neal Morgan and his wife Amanda of Greenwood, S.C., Brittney Morgan McClellan and her husband Seth of Oak Park, Ill., Michael Clary Morgan and his wife Allison of Lexington, S.C. and Alison Reid Morgan of Lincolnton; seven great-grandchildren, Layla Zaim of Lincolnton, Landon Raines Morgan and Collins Adair Morgan of Greenwood, S.C., Myles Clary Morgan and Mason Thomas Goodman of Lexington, S.C. and Ingrid Reid McClellan and Vera Helen McClellan of Oak Park, Ill.
Mrs. Morgan’s gentleness and warm greetings will be remembered with deep affection and thanksgiving for a life well lived in faithfulness, humility and loveliness.

Doris was born February 14, 1938, in Lincoln County to the late Henry and Eugenia Morrison Bridges. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gibbons Reese. She worked as an inspector in textiles.
She is survived by two sons, Edward Reese of Denver and James Reese of Lincolnton; two daughters, Gennie Herron of Iron Station and Mitzi Robinson of Denver; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
