Ricky E. Broome

DENVER — Ricky Eugene Broome, age 54, of Denver went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln.  He graced this world with his presence April 26, 1959 in Catawba County to the late Huey Broome and Mazell Helms Broome.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He is survived by wife, Patricia Ann Broome of the home; daughter,  Connie Lafferty and Dennis Horne of Kings Mountain; son,  Paul Culbreth of Longview; four brothers,  Robert Broome and wife Libby of Maiden, Larry Broome and wife Elizabeth of Newton, Darrell Broome and wife Charlene of Denver, Raymond Broome of Charlotte; two sisters:  Bonnie Spencer and husband Brian of Ohio, Lori Broome and Jake Woods of W.Va.; six grandchildren; great-grandson,  TJ “Hotrod” Hughes; numerous nieces and nephews

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden with Pastor Macon Ballard and Pastor Ray Lanier officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden.

Daniel Keith Byrd

Daniel Keith Byrd, age 53, of Elizabeth City died on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Elbert Jonas Byrd and Shelby Jean Anderson Byrd.

He is survived by two sons, K. Adam Byrd and William J. Byrd of Lincolnton; two sisters, Karen B Boyles and husband Micah of Lincolnton and Lisa B. Leslie and husband Chuck of Camden.  He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph B. Byrd.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Linda Vaughn Campbell

Mrs. Campbell passed away on January 18, 2014 after a long struggle with cancer.  Her life was one filled with a strong faith in Jesus Christ, love for her family and a mission to help others in need.  This desire to help others created an extended family of people that loved Linda.

Linda from her earliest days had a desire to travel and was able to realize this desire.  She spent a lot of time in England acquiring antiques which she sold in various venues.  She, along with her husband Ronnie, and many times her children, had many glorious adventures abroad, particularly in Europe.  Her first trip abroad was to Israel.

Linda is survived by her husband Ronnie, her three children Jason Campbell and wife Luibov, Clayton Campbell and wife Yelena, and Anna Catherine Campbell-Bartholomew and husband Neal.  In addition she is survived by her brothers, Charles Vaughn and Michael Vaughn, and sister, Nancy Lovelace.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy Vaughn, and one brother, Robert Vaughn.

Linda is also survived by seven wonderful grandchildren who were loved so much by their grandmother.  They are Alexey, Ella, Margaret, Evangeline, John (Vanya), Mary and Emma.

Linda was born in Greenville, S.C. on December 14, 1949.  She attended Gardner Webb University.  Her main occupation was raising her family and later dealing antiques.

Linda had a very full life with much joy.  She had many dear friends which she counted as a great treasure.  Her life was truly blessed by the love of two special Margarets; Margaret Mayhew, who will always be her second mother and inspiration, and Margaret McNeely Curtis, who will always be her special God-given friend.  God had a grand plan when he placed Linda at 335 South Academy Street in Mooresville.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service in Charlotte at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  Interment will be the following day in Carver Cemetery on the banks of Lake Santeetlah near Robbinsville, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nancy (Linda’s sister) and Tim Lovelace or Nathan and Allison Atwood (Linda’s niece) who are missionaries with Go To Nations, P.O. Jessie Ruth Noles Hord

CROUSE — Jessie Ruth Noles Hord, age 84, of Crouse Road, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at her residence.

She was born on March 18, 1929 in Gaston County, a daughter of the late Arthur and Beulah McAllister Noles.  Mrs. Hord was a member of Crouse United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and traveling.  Ruth formerly worked part-time at Harris-Teeter and with the Phone Company.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnnie, Forest, Everett, Fred, and Edward Noles; and sister, Laura Drake.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, James Ben Hord; sons, Larry James Hord (Kathie) of Asheboro, and Alan Lewis Hord (Jane) of Mt. Airy; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Crouse United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Cliff Wall officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.  The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral & Cremation Services.

Hayden Lee Carpenter-Hull

VALE — Heaven has gained another angel too beautiful for Earth.  Hayden Lee Carpenter-Hull, infant son of Savanna Brooke Carpenter and Dakota Bret Hull both of Vale, was granted his wings on January 16, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, William and Janie Broadway Jr. and Sam Lee Miller; and great-great grandparents, William and Beulah Ingle Broadway Sr.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Billy and Clarissa Broadway Carpenter of Cherryville; paternal grandparents, Bret and Tanja Hull of Vale; great-grandparents, Ben and Pat Carpenter of Cherryville, Wilma and Gene Hull of Vale, and Katie Miller of Vale; aunt, Maegan Whiddon (Harley) of Goose Creek, S.C.; and uncle, Nathan Hull of Vale; uncle and godfather, Kevin Peeler of Vale; and cousins, Brody Lyle Carpenter and William Talen Carpenter-Whiddon.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Leonard Bumgardner officiating.  Burial will be private.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 6:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jack Reives Lineberger

Jack Reives Lineberger, age 83, of Lincolnton died Saturday, January 18, 2014 after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer.

His funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Landers Chapel United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family received friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Lineberger was born in Gaston County on August 30, 1930 and was the son of the late Louie Dan Lineberger Sr. and Ida Mae Cloninger Lineberger. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Worth, James, Clyde, Oscar, Ed and Bill; two sisters, Betty Sue and Juanita Carpenter; his granddaughter, Keri and his son-in-law, Darrell Carpenter. His life was spent mainly in the Dallas-High Shoals-Hardin area with his last years being spent in the Landers Chapel community.  Mr. Lineberger was a faithful member of Landers Chapel United Methodist Church.  His career was in textiles, but his love was farming and in conversation with friends and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years who was also his soul mate and best friend, Nora Anne Carpenter Lineberger of the home; son, Andy Lineberger and wife, Becky of Lincolnton; two daughters, Patricia Carpenter Hass and husband, Calvin of Bessemer City, Wanda Lineberger Corriher and husband, Bill of Boone; one brother, Dan Lineberger; one sister-in-law Inez Lineberger of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Erin, Amy and Daniel and two great-grandchildren, Blaise and Ella-Grace.

Kenneth Jeffery Murphy

CROUSE — Mr. Kenneth Jeffery Murphy, age 51, of 3569 Gaston Webbs Chapel Road, Crouse died Sunday, January 19, 2014.

His funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Murphy was born on June 8, 1962 in Lincoln County and was the son of the late Vergie Bell Freeman Murphy.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his son, Christopher J. Murphy of Lincolnton; his father, Kenneth R. Murphy of Crouse; one brother, Michael R. Murphy of Maiden; two sisters, Sissy Haynes of Lincolnton and Gladys Setzer of Dallas, N.C.; special caregivers, Frank and Chelsa.

Fannie Ilease Sain

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Fannie Ilease Sain, 97, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Rolling Green Village Health Care.

Born March 22, 1916 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late O. W. and Dora Canipe Sain.  Ilease was an active member of Westview United Methodist Church in Hickory.  She worked in food preparation.  Working in her yard and garden brought her great joy.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, John W. Sain; sisters, Elizabeth “Lib” S. Hefner, and Edith S. Yount.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Becky Buchanan, Marie Clark, Ralph Hefner Jr., Kenneth Sain, Max Sain, Lillian Smith, and Carl Yount

A graveside service was held at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church, 7401 Reeps Grove Church Rd., Vale, on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. in the church cemetery.  The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall prior to the service.  The Rev. Ralph Hefner Jr. conducted the graveside service.

Cecil Pressley

Cecil Pressley, 79 of Eatonton, Ga. passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Pressley was born in Rosman, N.C. and was the son of the late Herbert Henry Pressley and Ethel West Pressley. He had retired from the logging business.

Visitation was held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel from 6 p.m. until 8p.m. The service was held on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel.  Mr. Pressley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marceil Plumley Pressley; one son, Jerry Pressley; three brothers, Harley, Ralph and Arthur Pressley and one sister, Lucy Reeves.

He is survived by his children, Cecil Pressley (Rebecca) of Milledgeville, Nancy Whitesides (David), Linda Foskey (Wyman), Vencie Rowell (William), Mary Ann Kasprzyk (Randy), Elvis J. Pressley (Cassy), Harlon H. Pressley (Jennifer) all of Eatonton, and Johnny M. Pressley (Rebecca) of Clayton.

Mr. Pressley is also survived by two sisters, Elvie Owens, Easley, S.C. and Ruth McCall of N.C. and two brothers, Rufus and Charlie Pressley of N.C. Mr. Pressley was truly blessed with 26 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

Elizabeth Applebee Ready, age 79 of Lincolnton passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.  She was born February 6, 1934 in Scotland.

Ethel “Lorene” Baker Hunsucker, 88, died January 17, 2014.
