I love the look of inlaid die cutting but I love it even more when it’s as quick and easy as using the Heart Banner die from Simon Says Stamp! One run through the die cutter (I’m enjoying my Christmas gift to myself of a new Big Shot) and you get all the pieces already cut perfectly to nestle together. I die cut the heart from a panel of Neenah solar white and then coloured with Copics the heart red and the banner shaded with a light grey. I left the lovely skinny outline white. I used another piece of white card just slightly smaller than the panel to adhere everything down. It’s just like fitting an easy jigsaw puzzle together :D The sentiment is a combination of the Sending die cut from Slate card and a matching phrase from the Sending & Wishing set stamped in Black on a scrap of white and trimmed. Both parts were glued down rather than adding dimensional adhesive as I thought it complemented the inlaid look of the heart. Having said that, I couldn’t help but mount the panel with foam on the top folding Neenah card base. I think I’d have withdrawal symptoms if I didn’t foam mount something! A swoosh of sequins in Raspberry, Sparkling Clear, Metallic Silver and Charcoal finished things off.
Have you seen all the lovely peeks coming in from CHA (Craft & Hobby Association)? The new range of Distress Inks with a new colour each month seems to be a big hit. First off will be Cracked Pistachio and you can reserve that here. There’s a plethora of new Lawn Fawn from ink to wood veneers too and are again available to reserve (love the colours in this paper pack).
It’s tough seeing all these gorgeous new product pics and knowing the new goodies are in production but not available quiet yet. So this weekend to take my mind off things, I enjoyed some colouring of a different sort! It all started with changing the light fitting in the hall closet; it’s strange how such a little job turned into a whole weekend project! Once the light was better in the closet it highlighted what a mess was in there. Coats and shoes shoved in that are rarely used and never any room for school bags so the kids leave them in the hall literally as they walk in – not a welcoming sight! Initially the project started out as a major clear out, leaving only the items we actually use on a daily basis. Finally, there was room now to hang the bags and prevent the clutter and trip hazards on walking into the house. I should’ve left it there, but then I made the fatal mistake of looking on Pinterest revealing the infinite options for the smallest space in the house! This clean and simple design stood out to me (please see source linked below):

After persuading the family that yes it was important that the coat cupboard looked nice (“but Mum it’s just a cupboard!”) we set to. The colour I’d been spotting that appealed is called griege but I’m jumping ahead of myself as initially we had to take all the current fittings out, repairing the wall as a result, paint panels and fix them, add hooks, caulk and finish everywhere before finally painting from top to bottom. It’s not as lovely and well finished as the inspiration but it makes me happy! If I like the colour after a few days then I’m planning on continuing the refresh into the hall. All this for a coat closet, perhaps it was my way of managing being green with envy at seeing all the loveliness of CHA and wishing I was there LOL. Here’s a little look at the result.
I’m no good at photographing things larger than a card LOL and the colour is slightly darker than it’s showing, but I think you get the idea – top rail for coats and bottom rail for bags :D There’s a window opposite as you look in and on the right side there’s a similar set up although we also have the ugly electricity workings and fuse box etc. and need to think of a way to hide that. I’m also in the process of painting the shoe rack that fits against the back wall. It is inexpensive but fits the space well so I thought it would be a quick job …. 5 slated shelves later and I wish I’d bought a new one LOL. There won’t be a lot of spare space to make this pretty as this is a busy family home and most of the wall you see will be covered with the workings of said family. Perhaps I should’ve added a nice bag and scarf before snapping the picture and make-believe this is how it will stay looking! However, I’m going to see what space is left when everything is back in and might be able to pop a picture above the top rack or a simple wall hanging somewhere :D I must remember before doing something like this again to take a ‘before’ picture so I can be totally shamed by how things were LOL.
So that was my weekend, what did you get up to?!
