DELTA (AP) — No human remains were found last week during a search of property owned by a man charged with abducting and killing a college student, authorities said Wednesday.
Investigators feared they might find evidence of other victims after a search of 57-year-old James Worley’s property uncovered a hidden room in a barn outfitted with restraints and a freezer lined with carpet that had blood inside of it.
A spokeswoman for the Ohio attorney general said the search of Worley’s property outside of Delta occurred last week. She provided no additional details about the case or what investigators might have found.
Worley is being held without bond after authorities charged him with aggravated murder and abduction in the slaying of 20-year-old University of Toledo student Sierah Joughin. She was last seen on July 19 bicycling in her hometown of Metamora, about 20 miles west of Toledo.
Worley spent three years in prison for abducting a woman riding a bicycle along a country road in 1990. The woman said she fought off Worley and escaped after he forced her inside his truck and handcuffed her.
Worley’s attorney didn’t return telephone messages on Wednesday and hasn’t commented on the accusations.
