Shop Local & Small Biz – The 2014 Holiday Edition!

Small business Saturday has passed but you know what hasn’t passed is the fact that we have about 18 or 19 days until Christmas Eve depending on how you add it up! If you are celebrating Hanukkah well you don’t have quite as much time! I am a huge believer in shopping local but you know what else I’m a believer in shopping small biz and both are fun you can get to know the owners of the company’s that you are working with.

Here are my list of Local Businesses to Wilmington NC and the surrounding area you should go check out!

My go to gift item this year is a necklace from this store called Half United!  Kim at 98.3 The Penguin was wearing this at a local event and I asked her about it and I found out that the necklace with the Bullet (Take A Bullet For Hunger) every product you purchase provides a weeks worth of food for a child in need!  I don’t know about you but I think that’s pretty cool I told the Viking I wanted one for sure!

Our Lil’ Suburban Homestead Etsy Shop – No Sew Fleece Blankies, Honey and Mind Yo’ Beezwax Lip Balm

Memory Lane Comics – is a local comic book store where they buy, sell and trade Comics, Action Figures and Graphic Novels!  They know their stuff!  Go in and tell Jake and Ben we sent you!  Plus they take hilarious pictures and post them on facebook!  They even have special comedy nights and events at their store!

Wilmington Home Brew Supply and  Wilmington Brewing Co. both located together off Kerr Avenue is your holiday place to shop for home brewing supplies and or really cool t-shirts. They have new t-shirt designs this year and they are awesome too I have one on my Christmas list for my husband to get me! If you don’t have one it should be on your list even if you don’t home-brew. The owners John and Michelle provide personal service and attention as well as providing a wealth of knowledge regarding home-brewing and they are just fun people!  Michelle took this picture for us today!

Pomegranate Books is a local book store in Wilmington that has buyers that are out of this world I am telling you if you need the book they will find it and they still gift wrap and offer all of the personal touches that you just can’t find anymore at the big chain stores. Plus you will get to know the Owner and Management and that makes all the difference!

Gravity Records – This is such a fun store and the folks that work in the store absolutely love music! They host events to launch new musicians, if you love vinyl have they got some vinyl for you and me I love to browse their cd collection to continually expand my music collection. Oh and they have movies too! Make sure to stop in and say hey to Matt the owner this holiday season!

Goat & Compass – A local bar that feels like Cheers!  Great drink specials and really cool bar memorabilia last year they had hoodies and once again the owner Scott says they have some really cool hoodies in just in time for the holiday season and each hoodie lists all the breweries in North Carolina!  Click here to see a prototype of the hoodie!

The Ready Store -  We found this gem of a store in Hampstead North Carolina and they have MRE’s, backpacking supplies, emergency supplies and more!  Yes we stocked up!

Shelton Herb Farm – Meg Shelton is a friend of ours and she runs a beautiful herb farm in Leland, NC. If you haven’t been out to visit the farm it is so worth a visit! She is very knowledgeable about what grows well in North Carolina. Besides there is an amazing barbecue place out in Leland called Dukes BBQ so it’s an excuse to stop in there as well!

Earth In Hand – I met the owner Victoria she is committed to finding the finest materials to make her lotion bars and balms along with providing Chakra healing just to name a few things.

Down To Earth – is where I ask my husband to pick up my custom or almost custom-made perfume made from essential oils every Birthday and Christmas! It smells amazing! They also sell incense and jewelry I love this store!  Did I mention I love their jewelry?

Re-Eco Gift Shop – My friend Katherine recommended this place to me!   It is a place that was opened by a couple of local artists and they sell really cool unique items often that are repurposed and seeing is believing so get on over there!  Trust me I take what she says seriously you should too!
