Toshiba’s latest Android tablets are now available for purchase in the US, making Toshiba the first company to offer products with NVIDIA’s new Tegra 4 processor. NVIDIA’s own Shield handheld game system will also have one, but the NVIDIA Shield won’t ship until the end of this month at the earliest.

The Toshiba Excite Pro and Toshiba Excite Write tablets are each powered by the quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 processor. Meanwhile folks looking for more of an entry-level tablet can opt for the cheaper Toshiba Excite Pure, which has a Tegra 3 ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core chip.

All three models have 10 inch screens, run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and sell for prices between $250 to $600.

Toshiba Excite Pro

The Excite Pro features a Tegra 4 processor, a high-resolution 2560 x 1600 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.

It also has an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and image stabilization, a 1.2MP front-facing camera, and Harman/Kardon stereo speakers.

The tablet has a microSD card slot, micro HDMI port, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. It weighs about 1.4 pounds and measures 0.4 inches thick.

Toshiba says the 33Whr should provide up to 11 hours of run time.

While the Toshiba Excite Pro has a list price of $499.99, some retailers are offering it for as much as $20 off. Here are a few places where you can buy one:

Toshiba Excite Write

This model is nearly identical to the Excite Pro and features the same processor, operating system, and high-resolution IPS display.

What makes it stand out is the included digital pen, active digitizer, and software that lets you use them to write, draw, and export your notes as documents.

The Excite Write is also a little heavier than the Pro model, weighing nearly 1.5 pounds. Toshiba says you should expect up to 10.5 hours of battery life from this model.

$600 from Amazon

Toshiba Excite Pure

The Excite Pure tablet doesn’t have the high-resolution screen or crazy-fast processor of the other models in the new Excite family. What it does have is a more affordable price.

Toshiba’s suggested retail price for the Excite Pure is $300, but you can already find it selling for as little as $250.

What you get with this model is a tablet with a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display with a 170 degree viewing angle, an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage.

It has micro HDMI and microSD card ports, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and stereo speakers. There’s a 1.2MP front-facing camera, but no rear camera.

Toshiba says the 25Whr battery should provide up to 13.5 hours of run time, and the tablet weighs just under 1.4 pounds.

Here are some of the stores selling the Toshiba Excite Pure:

$250 from Amazon

$300 from Toshiba

$300 from Adorama

$300 from KMart

While the Excite Pure is basically a tablet with 2012-era specs that’s being thrown on the market in mid-2013, the price isn’t bad… at least not if you buy it from Amazon.
