An illustration workshop with Teagan White
http://teaganwhite.com

July 3 - 5th (Friday Night, Saturday and Sunday)
Open to individuals looking to challenge their current practice to grow! We'll talk with Teagan about finding new ways of expanding your creative business into new arenas, build the foundation for ambitious new creative projects--- all while keeping authentic to who you are and why you do what you do!

THE WORKSHOP:
This workshop is open to locals and travelers! We believe that the best way to expand your creative practice is by connecting with other like-minded people in an environment that promotes exploration, innovation and discovery.

In this new 2.5 day workshop, illustrator Teagan White will share her perspective on what it’s like being an artist committed to two very distinct working styles, both influenced by her connection with the natural world, and why she makes exploration and discovery out in the wild environments of Minnesota a necessary part of her practice. Participants will be encouraged to explore their own stylistic spectrum, look to new sources of experiential inspiration to fuel a new body of work, and learn new ways of expanding their practice authentically through a series of demonstrations, discussions and studio sessions, both out in the (literal) field during a day at Lake Maria State Park and at Light Grey Art Lab.

OUR SCHEDULE:
FRIDAY MAY. 22nd (7 - 10pm)

(7pm) Join us at Light Grey Art Lab for Teagan White’s artist lecture and Q&A session. Backed by the upcoming Patches & Stitches Exhibition, Teagan will lecture about her creative practice as a multi-faceted artist. Teagan's two distinctly different drawing styles have allowed her to span the gamut from advertising to children's books, gallery shows to surface and pattern design. Teagan will share her journey and insight into her practice as it grew to contain her two looks and how such diversity has allowed her to flourish as an artist and a creative business person. In addition to her public lecture, Teagan will be hosting a short Q&A session immediately following her lecture. Space will be limited, so workshop participants will receive reserved VIP seating for this event.

(8-10pm) Immediately following Teagan’s lecture, we will be opening the doors to Light Grey Art Lab for the opening reception of the Patches & Stitches Exhibition, which features work by Teagan and 60 other international artists. This opening doubles as a public Meet & Greet, where guests can meet Teagan and say hi to a whole host of other Twin Cities creatives. Participants are encouraged to bring their business cards for a night of fun mingling and art viewing.

SATURDAY MAY 23rd (9:30am - 6pm)

We’ll meet up at Light Grey Art Lab bright and early for a quick breakfast and introduction to our weekend! Teagan will share some of her plans for our weekend!

We’ll caravan to Lake Maria State Park, where we’ll set up our base camp at a private cabin amongst old growth forest , creeks and plenty of marshland. We’ve prepared a full day of exploratory demonstrations and exercises that will help stimulate our sense of discovery and wonder. Teagan will discuss how being outdoors has influenced her practice and provided inspiration for her two illustrative looks. Each participant will receive an explorer’s kit of drawing tools and prompts to help stir up some potential new concepts that are reflective of your personal creative identity as you explore. Our morning session will help unlock some of your conscious (and subconscious) creative desires, and we’ll be using what we find throughout the weekend to craft a personal list of objectives and concepts for new projects.

We’ll have a discussion about authenticity, adapting and evolving, and building maps for our creative travels. We’ll talk about how to take some of those big ideas you have for your practice, and put them into action. Then, we’ll set out by land and sea (we are looking forward to taking advantage of Lake Maria’s paddle boats!) in groups to draw and gather ideas and content using some of Lake Maria’s wild spaces and trails. You’ll use this time to gather more content and converse about concepts amidst the wilderness. As the day winds down, we’ll meet back at the cabin where we’ll recap before heading back to Minneapolis to grill outdoors and participants can opt in to bike down to catch the fourth of July fireworks!

SUNDAY MAY 24 (9:30am - 6pm)
We’ll meet bright and early and begin our day with a discussion on balance, authenticity in building your brand, and some of the considerations we face when marrying our passion projects with business. Afterward Teagan will begin our first studio session with a demonstration on her ideation processes. We’ll explore alternatives to our tried and true methods of making during a studio session built to expand the way we think of subjects we love.

In the early afternoon Teagan will demonstrate how she uses a variety of different mediums in her varied practice including a gouache and watercolor demo and we’ll get a behind the scenes look at what goes into creating her two looks.

After lunch, We’ll head into a series of mini back-to-back creative workshops, expanding on new formats such as incorporating hand-done type in your work, thinking about patterns, or building on narratives in new ways for our work and further developing the ideas for new potential projects and meeting one on one with Teagan for a personalized look at where to go from here. As the workshop winds down, we’ll head to a celebratory dinner at one of Minneapolis’s local eateries to celebrate the new ideas we’ve built together!
