Gunners “specialist in failure” must be sacked – Says former Arsenal midfielder

Sky Sports Pundit Paul Merson claimed that Arsenal must part company with Arsene Wenger if Leicester or Tottenham win the Premier League this season.

Gunners are now five points adrift leaders Leicester and three points behind Spurs with 11 match to play, following Sunday’s 3-2 loss at Old Trafford.

North London club’s manager Arsene Wenger signed no senior outfield players last summer and the former star Paul Merson stated that he must pay for that decision with his job if they lose out in the title race to a team with less financial muscle.

“If Man City don’t win the league and Tottenham or Leicester do then Arsene Wenger has to go, If you’re sitting there telling those fans – loyal Arsenal fans – that they don’t need any new players at the start of the season and then you don’t win the league in front of Leicester or Tottenham then I don’t see how you can justify it.” – he told Sky Sports.

“If Man City win the league he can turn around and say ‘they’ve got all the money in the world and can go and buy whoever they want, so would whoever I bought have made much difference? But if Leicester or Tottenham win the league after he said they didn’t need any players then I don’t see how he can keep his job.”

And he declared Wenger must take all the balem for failing to motivate his squad as they enter the final weeks of the campaign.

“Arsenal had 12 cup finals to play, But they went out on Sunday with an attitude of ‘it’s only Man United and they’ve got loads of injuries and kids playing, so we’ll breeze through this game’.

“It just frustrates me and it absolutely does my head in.

“People point to the players, but the manager has to get the players up for these games. Man United might be fifth and not having a good season, but it’s still Man United in front of 75,000 people.” – He Added.

Arsenal have been given the green light to sign Ballon D’Or winner

According to ESPN report, Arsene Wenger’s side are the latest club who entered in the race to sign the Foxes winger Riyad Mahrez.

The 25-years old has been one of the Premier League’s remarkable footballers this season having scored 14 goals and providing 10 assists.

Algerian winger’s form has led to the likes of Red Devils, the Blues, Barca and Real Madrid being linked with him, and Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri hinting that he will be allowed to go from club this summer.

This has alerted Arsenal to 25-years old potential availability, and the North London outfit will continue to look after his growth before thinking about making a bid at the end of the season.

Earlier this month Mahrez has won the Algerian Ballon d’Or in 2015 year.

Also, As the Daily Mirror reports, the Gunners are considering to secure a summer move for long-term target Victor Wanyama from the Saints.

A defensive midfielder has been linked with a move to the Emirates during the past few seasons and was previously rejected an exit by his club in the summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger already signed the 23-years old Mohamed Elneny in the January window, but will need more options in the midfield following the possible departures of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta, and Tomas Rosicky.

The trio’s contract will end at the end of the current term as the Gunners’ boss looks to add the Kenya international into his midfield ranks before next season.

There also were rumours that interested sides could overlook his transfer given his disciplinary problems, as he is currently serving a five matches ban for picking up his third red card of the campaign.

The 24-year-old has already appeared in 22 Premier League matches for his side this season and is believed to be worth around the £20million region.

After much speculation and a previous breakdown in talks, on 11 July 2013, Wanyama signed for Premier League side Southampton for a fee claimed to be £12.5 million, making him the first Kenyan to ever play in the Premier League.
