Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has announced he was ‘desperate’ for The Reds to land Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez during the summer.
The African winger was an essential part of the Leicester team that stormed to the Premier League title last campaign.
Mahrez netted 17 goals and provided 10 assists across the season as the Foxes ended 10 points above their nearest rivals, Arsenal.
The defender claims he loved watching Mahrez in action and hoped his ex-club Liverpool reached a deal to sign him at Anfield.
“Mahrez angled for a move but no suitors were forthcoming. I was desperate for Liverpool to sign Mahrez. I loved watching him last season, he used to get me out of my seat the way he would cut in from the right flank on to his left foot. I was shocked none of the giants made a bid for such a gifted wide man, who scored goals and created plenty of assists.” – The former dentre-back told the Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, Ligue 1 giants PSG have stepped up their pursuit of River Plate forward Lucas Alario with an opening offer of £9million.
The South American attacker has also drawn Liverpool‘s interest with his displays in South America.
The Reds are one of those hot on the young forward trail, while Tottenham have also been linked with a January offer.
He has netted 10 goals in 24 Primera Division matches in 2016 and a host of European sides are on his footsteps.
The Ligue 1 champions are huge admirers of the striker and want to strike a deal before other clubs attempt to sign him up.
The South American club River Plate are yet to reply to the offer however it has lately been reported they want about £15m for Alario.
