Manchester United have made a play to sign Guillherme Arana.

Manchester United have made a play to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of talented Brazilian prospect Guillherme Arana, report Tuttomercatoweb.

It is claimed that United have held talks with Arana’s agent at their training base in Manchester, as they try to lure the Corinthians kid to Old Trafford.

Tuttomercatoweb reported last month that Tottenham Hotspur were in pole position to sign the 19-year-old, and had held initial talks with his agent.

They have yet to conclude a deal, and now Manchester United appear to have nipped in to the front of the queue.

Arana, 19, is a left-back who was just two years old when the Red Devils won the Treble in 1999.

This season he has played three games for Corinthians to date, including an appearance in the Copa Libertadores.

While he has previously been included in a Brazil under-20 squad, acquiring a work permit could be a difficulty for United, and Arana could have to be sent on loan if he does sign.

Tottenham are set at left-back with Danny Rose and Ben Davies strong options, but United’s interest in Arana is potential bad news for Luke Shaw, who has twice clashed with manager Jose Mourinho this season.
