Never use the matches or lighters for entertainment purposes. You have to remember that children are very curious. They always want to try new activities. As a parent, it is your responsibility to remind them that playing with fire is not safe. Satisfy their curiosity by explaining to them the right things.
Never rely on your smoke alarms. It is highly recommended that you change the batteries for your alarms once a year. To be safe, these alarms must be installed in every level and room of your house. Most importantly, the rooms of your children must have the said fire alarms. Teach your sons and daughters the escape routes in case their are emergencies. By doing such, they can prepare themselves for whatever may happen. They will know where to go and how to get out of the house.
Appliances and electrical cords must also be taken into consideration. Make sure that the wiring is working properly. There must also be proper covers for your outlets so the kids won't be able to play with it. Correct light bulbs must also be used to avoid problems. Lastly, don't forget about the kitchen--burners and
ovens, towels near flame and coffeemakers.
