Dr. Gill is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Texas Tech University. Lubbock, Texas, USA. His research interests are in the fields of immunoengineering and micro-nano medicine. His laboratory is currently investigating microneedles, pollen grains, and gold nanoparticles for mucosal vaccination, allergy immunotherapy, and cancer drug delivery. He is amongst the pioneers of the microneedle technology, and holds a patent on coated microneedles. Dr. Gill has a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering (Panjab University, India) and a doctoral degree in Bioengineering (Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, USA). Dr. Gill has received numerous honors and awards including the prestigious National Institute of Health Director’s New Innovator Award, the Young Faculty Award from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the Whitacre Endowed Chair in Science and Engineering for his research achievements in biomedical engineering.
Hazel Gowland, Allergy Action, St Albans, United Kingdom
Hazel Gowland is well-known as a food allergic champion consumer, patient representative, researcher and trainer. She has worked for and with the Anaphylaxis Campaign since 1994 and as an independent expert adviser – Allergy Action since 2000. Current projects include support for clinical studies into allergy prevention, severity and thresholds, investigating fatal and ‘near miss’ reactions, researching the impact of food fraud on those at risk from allergies, the development of policies, best practice and training (see allergytraining.com) for a wide range of food businesses, and assessing their impact for the consumers and regulators across the EU.
Astrid Hogenkamp, Utrecht University, Utrecht, Netherlands
Astrid Hogenkamp is assistant professor of immunopharmacology (Fac. Science, Utrecht University). She obtained her PhD at Utrecht University in 2007. Hereafter she started working as a postdoc at the division of pharmacology. Her work is aimed at the elucidation of immunomodulatory and immune-programming mechanisms induced by nutrition. Her work is strongly aimed at translational research, as the dietary concepts that she uses in her studies have been developed with the aim of applying them in clinical settings. She authored several papers in international refereed journals in the field of immune functioning and programming.
Xiu-Min Li, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, United States
Dr. Li studied medicine and Chinese medicine at the Henan College of Chinese Medicine (Zhengzhou) and received an MS in Clinical Pediatric Immunolology at the China Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing. She was Staford visiting scientist, and postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins before coming to Mount Sinai. She has published 100 (approx.) peer-reviewed papers committees on complementary and alternative medicine and received many awards, including 2016 Future of Health Technology Institute award given in Cambridge, Mass. this past May. She is also co-author of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Western Science, and the Fight Against Allergic Disease (World Scientific, Singapore 2016).

Dr. Caroline Roduit is a paediatric allergist and researcher at the University Hospital Zurich and CK-CARE (Christine Kühne – Center for Allergy Research and Education). She completed her residency training in paediatrics and allergology at University Children’s Hospitals of Geneva and Zurich. She also received training in epidemiology from the Netherlands Institute for Health Science, where she obtained her Master of Public Health, and from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, where she obtained her PhD in clinical epidemiology. Her research interest is on epidemiology of paediatric allergy. She is a member of the executive committee of the PASTURE study, a European birth cohort, investigating the role of environmental factors in asthma and allergic diseases.

Ondulla T. Toomer is a North Carolina native and currently resides in Laurel MD. In 2005, she graduated from North Carolina State University with PhD in Nutrition and Molecular Biology, and also holds a M.S. in Physiology, B.S. in Biochemistry and a B.A. in Chemistry. In July 2005, Toomer began a postdoctoral fellowship in the Mucosal Immunology Laboratory of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School under the supervision of Dr. Allan Walker and Dr. Hai Ning Shi studying the immunological health benefits of probiotics in neonatal development using a murine model. Toomer completed a second postdoctoral training program at the United States Dept Agriculture/Agriculture Research Service in Beltsville MD in 2007 with a research emphasis in differential gene expression in the reproductive tissues of turkey hens. Dr. Toomer is currently employed as a scientist at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration-Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition with a research focus on food allergy and nutritional immunology (probiotics and prebiotics).

Dr. Jongejan has a broad background in molecular biology. As a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. van Ree she gained expertise in natural and recombinant protein isolation and characterization, serology, affinity measurements, immunogenicity assessment and the development of diagnostic tools. In two subsequent European projects she produced most of her peer-reviewed publications. She is the project manager in two current European projects, FAST and BM4SIT.
