You call that work? Well, we certainly don’t! Here are 10 professions we’d happily pay to do – certainly not the other way round. Bet there’s no clock-watching when you’re doing this for a living!
1. Choc-tastic

Yes, tasting chocolate is a profession. They eat choccies and get paid to indulge in our favourite-ever food! But according to some in this job, it does have a downside as you taste, not eat. And not all the products are nice as some might be defective. Apparently, it’s also tricky to numb the senses between tastings and involves sucking ice and eating dry crackers. Still think we’d risk it!
2. Get A Room…

As a hotel inspector working for a grading authority, you spend nights in luxury five-star resorts and can try all the facilities on offer. With all those greasy fried brekkies, afternoon teas and three-course dinners, the gym must be a very necessary facility! Disadvantages we’re assured are some places are bit nasty, you have to travel a lot and you miss your family, so it can be lonely. Oh, well, maybe head down to the bar and see if there’s anyone to talk to. If not, maybe order room service and watch a bit of telly, or use the Wi-Fi to contact loved ones.
3. Grub’s Up

Imagine getting paid to scoff posh nosh! Well, that’s exactly what food critics do! You’ll try the best dishes in exclusive restaurants and hopefully give them a favourable (or should that be flavourable!) write-up. Of course, you won’t like everything you try, there’ll be things you hate (with us its olives and beetroot). You also have to train your palate to recognise different tastes and you must be able to describe your culinary experiences in an interesting way. ‘It was nice’ or ‘It was nasty’, doesn’t cut it when writing a restaurant review!
4. In The Club!

Manning the decks in a banging nightclub, isn’t a tough call. All that clever beat mixing and watching the floor fill with appreciate people throwing shapes. So cool. What you don’t want, though, is to accidentally play songs over each other. You also want any feedback you receive to come from satisfied clubbers, and not that screeching sound created when a mic picks up sound from a speaker and regenerates it back through the amp!
5. Girl On Tour!

Showing people around your favourite city and telling them interesting, historic facts is a joy not a hardship. They’ve chosen to take your tour and you have them in the palm of your hand from the get-go. But remember, they’ll hang on your every word so you MUST know your stuff! There are also going to be days when the weather’s appalling and you still have to walk the streets. That rolled-up umbrella you often hold in the air to direct the group is now over your head, as you and the group move along crab-like beneath a sea of brollies…
6. Love Boat

Everybody on board a cruise wants the chance to dine at the captain’s table. Normally a charismatic, handsome man (and is it us, or are they getting younger these days!) the captain is always well turned out and polite. But, although we associate him with swanning around the luxurious liner and being suave and sociable, the position is extremely important. The ship’s safe and efficient operation, the cargo and every person on board are under the captain’s authority and his responsibility. So the tough part of his job is not just a drop in the ocean (sorry cap’n wrong expression – that’s the last thing we want)!
7. Toy Story

From time to time, toy manufacturers need children and their families to play with toys and games, while researchers, designers, marketing professionals and engineers observe their reactions and play habits. Although they don’t get paid, they’ll often receive gift vouchers and sometimes presents as a reward for helping. Toy companies normally look for toy testers by putting messages on their website. So keep a look out on your kids’ favourite toymakers sites and it could be game on!
The following three positions all involve hanging out with animals, which makes them all the more sought-after. Bet you’ve dreamt about doing at least one of these fab jobs…
8. Flipper Brilliant!
Many people are against large sea creatures being kept in captivity and made to perform in shows. But despite the controversy and backlash received from protestors, dolphin training is still considered a dream job by many. Lisa Mignogna is director of zoological operations and trains the dolphins at Georgia Aquarium. Lisa is a marine biologist and lifetime lover of marine mammals. Watch her go about her daily work with bottlenose dolphins and the special bond she’s formed between these amazing animals here…
9. Safari… So Good

As more African nations build an infrastructure to support tourism, apparently, the demand for experienced safari guides is growing. What? Get us there now! Showing tourists around game reserves filled with incredibly beautiful animals is a brilliant job! But you can’t just hop in a Jeep and take off. It requires skills that can take years to develop. And when you consider many of the animals you’ll be working with would quite like to eat you, you’ll have to make sure you really know your stuff or can run really fast!
10. Panda-ing To Their Needs
We’ve saved the best-ever job in the world until last. Of course it sounds too good to be true, but pandas need hugs and somebody has to do it! And that task is carried out by a panda caretaker – which is a real job! The Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in China employs a panda caretaker, what’s more it pays $32,000 (£22,000) a year! Now see the caretaker carrying out this enviable task…
