Sign ups to co-host for November are now open!

Are you a dress person? I sure am. It’s funny though, because if you asked me if I was a dress person a year or two ago, I would have emphatically told you no. It only recently clicked for me that dresses are the best thing ever. Especially if you have the right one. They’re breezy and comfortable, and require zero thought when getting dressed–just put it on and you have your outfit. No struggling to pair a top with bottoms. So easy.

Because I love dresses so much, there is NO WAY I am letting a change in seasons dissuade me from continuing to wear a dress. And truthfully, wearing a dress for Fall is my favorite way to do it!

Styling dresses for cool weather is pretty easy–it’s all about adding layers. Not only for warmth, but also for interest. Here are a few things to keep in mind to make transitioning a dress to Fall as successful as possible:

Play with patterns

Layering gives you such an excellent opportunity to add patterns to your outfit, whether you are adding a single pattern to the look, or doing some pattern mixing. Plaid is always classic for Fall–you can easily incorporate it by wearing a plaid scarf, or layering a plaid button down over your dress or tying it around your waist.

If you’re going to be mixing patterns, keep this in mind:

Play with textures

Add interest to your outfit by mixing up the textures and fabrics. If you’re wearing a sweater dress, try wearing a scarf with a smoother, thinner fabric. If you’re wearing a soft, cotton knit dress, add a chunky cable knit scarf. The possibilities aren’t limited to scarves, either! Think wool coats, fur lined hoods, cable knit tights, a leather moto jacket….

Give your shoes some thought!

When wearing a dress for fall, I think the type of shoe you wear is dependent upon the length of your dress. If you are wearing a knee length dress, you aren’t limited in your options–boots work, booties work, flats work, as do any type of heel. For midi dresses, shorter boots or booties are the best best, since they will still allow your legs to show.

If you’re loving dresses for Fall as much as I am, be sure to check out Maegen’s and Emilie’s looks as well! My love of boho means I am SWOONING over Maegen’s outfit. The fun, vibrant pattern on Emilie’s dress is perfect for the coming days of cooler weather.

I am so excited for next week’s prompt–All About Aztec. Aztec is one of my very favorite patterns lately, and I’m excited to continue styling this fun pattern for fall! Can’t wait to see your takes!

Bre and Ree always look amazing, but I was especially loving their looks from last week’s “boyfriend trend” inspired outfit!
