As a part of Prime minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India project, the government announced DigiLocker, an online facility last year. The application is available on android and saves all your government issued documents like PAN card, Aadhar card, property documents, college certificates and much more. The government announced on September 7th that the users can upload their license and registration papers also on DigiLocker.

The government is going to be taking steps to work on digital formats of the driving licenses and vehicle registration documents directly to DigiLocker, thus saving the users from some tiring paperwork. The service was launched by union minister, Nitin Gadkari and Ravi Shankar in Delhi.

As per a press release issued by the government, “Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration documents can now be issued directly to the DigiLockers of individuals in digital formats.”

Minister of Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said: “the integration will bring a paradigm shift in the vision of paperless governance. It will serve to bring agility and efficiency to the entire process of issuance of driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates through IT enablement.”

The main benefit of the app will be it will prevent misplacement or loss of the license. With companies trying to incorporate good technology that favours users, we think this initiative is also a good one.

‘RTA m-Wallet’ also offers options to add multiple vehicles owned by an individual. The documents once downloaded on the application will be saved permanently, the release said.
