Thanks to Carl Lennertz, World Book Night’s Executive Director, for sharing the list of the Top 20 library giver locations for World Book Night 2014 US with us.
Every year World Book Night takes place on April 23rd (Shakespeare’s Birthday).
If you’re not familiar with this event here’s what takes place according to the WBN web site.
25,000 book givers each give away 20 copies of a specially-printed, not-for-resale World Book Night U.S. edition of a book they have read and loved, chosen from a list of 39 titles selected by a panel of librarians and booksellers. The volunteer book givers personally hand out their copies to complete strangers, people who may never have owned a book of their own. Libraries and bookstores support this event as organizational participants, forming a nationwide advocacy and distribution network.
Lennertz also shared these details about WBN 2014:
The #1 individual library in the country is the Clinton Public Library in Clinton, Iowa, with 41 givers signed up to get their boxes there.
All participating libraries are being emailed their giver number this week so they can plan for giver receptions the week of April 14. WBN giver boxes arrive the week of April 7 and are checked in and stored while giver materials are printed and prepared.

1,055 libraries signed up via the ALA website last fall to be WBN locations; sign-up is closed for this year.
Carl Lennertz also said, “In addition to individual givers, groups are choosing to work via their local library, from the Prison Book Project and Porter Square to the 50 Rotary Club members and That Bookstore in Blytheville.!”
