Attention young writers!  The 2016 Write @ Your Library creative writing contest is seeking submissions of poems and short stories from students in grades 7 through 12 from across Grey and Bruce Counties.

The 2016 Write @ Your Library creative writing contest is open to all students in grades 7 to 12 in Grey and Bruce Counties.

Winning entries will receive cash prizes and have their work published in the Write for 2016 anthology.  First place winners in each category will be published in Mosaic magazine.  An awards ceremony with readings of the winning entries will be held on June 3 at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library.

Submissions are also sought for the cover design of the 2016 anthology.  The winning entry will receive a $100 cash prize.

Guidelines for the writing and design contests can be picked up at your local public library or downloaded from the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library’s website: www.owensound.library.on.ca.

This event is coordinated by the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, and is enabled through the participation and sponsorship of Mosaic, The United Way of Bruce Grey, Bruce County Public Library, Grey Highlands Public Library, Hanover Public Library, Meaford Public Library and West Grey Public Library.

Contest Rules:

Write @ Your Library is an annual contest that is enabled through the sponsorship of MOSAIC magazine, the United Way of Bruce Grey and the participation of public libraries across Grey and Bruce counties.

Short stories and poems are submitted into one of two categories: Junior (grades 7 to 9) and Senior (grades 10 to 12). Cash prizes of up to $100 and honourable mentions are awarded at the discretion of the judges. First place short stories and poems will be published in MOSAIC. All winning entries and honourable mentions will also be published in the Write for 2016 Anthology produced by the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library. An awards ceremony is held in June, participants will be contacted with the date and time.

The deadline for submissions is May 6, 2016.

Creative Writing Contest Rules and Guidelines:

1. All entries must be submitted electronically via email to ndanyluk@owensound.library.on.ca.

2. Submissions must be sent as an attachment to the email. If you do not receive acknowledgement of the receipt of your email within 24 hours, please contact

3. The Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library reserves the right to reproduce and publish entries.

4. The Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library reserves the right to alter the font, point size and layout for publication in Write for 2016. No content changes will be made.

5. All entries must include within the body of the email the following information about the entrant: full name, address, phone number, grade level, library name, and library card number.

6. All entrants must hold a valid library card for one of the participating libraries. The Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library reserves the right to verify library membership.

7. All entries must be the author’s own work and previously unpublished.

8. Cover art designs must fit on an 8.5” x 11” piece of paper and include the words “Write for 2016”.

9. Poems may be a maximum of 50 lines in length. No more than 5 poems may be submitted per author.

10. Short stories may be a maximum of 1500 words in length. No more than 2 stories may be submitted per author.

11. The decisions of the judges are final. Winners will be notified by phone.
