When you hear your club is interested in a Real Madrid forward, your ears undeniably prick up, but we imagine many Reds won’t have heard of Mariano Diaz Mejia…

Liverpool to use emotional test to decide whether Sadio Mane is ready for Chelsea
In nine appearances this campaign in all competitions, he’s notched five goals – a very respectable return from a 23-year-old who was practically unheard of before this season began.
According to Spanish publication Cadena SER (translated by 101GreatGoals), Liverpool, along with Alaves, have made an official offer for the forward, but Mariano wants to stay at El Bernabeu and fight for his place.
We very much doubt this is true, however.
Mariano will be 24 by the summer, and although he seems a decent backup option for Zidane, we’re not sure he’ll do the job on Merseyside. We already have the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi behind Roberto Firmino in the pecking order when everyone’s fit, and it’s speedy wingers we really require rather than centre-forwards.
Thankfully, Sadio Mane is back now to ease that burden.
