Last week’s look at my “before” and “after” foyer transformation was a great way to show off the fantastic benefits of floor-to-ceiling renovations. Today, I continue this theme of amazing transformations by taking a look at how I updated the living area and kitchen of the same Boston luxury waterfront penthouse condo.

Living Area BEFORE

Some of the major changes to the living area included:

The creation of a fabulous “feature” wall which included a beautiful limestone fireplace surround, cantilevered 3/4″ glass shelving mounted on sandblasted mirror with integrated LED accent lighting

Wide plank oak flooring

Built-in window seats which served two purposes: 1) to hide the unattractive baseboard heating elements and 2) provide additional seating to enjoy the fabulous water view

Dramatic cove lighting was added in the reconfigured ceiling soffits

What a transformation!!

My goal was to create an open floor plan between the living area and the kitchen. The wall at the far end of the “before” photo below was removed to open up the space.

And what a change it was!!

The original kitchen was in a horrid state when the project started:

What a gorgeous transformation with a new Poggenpohl kitchen (and custom stainless steel breakfast bar)!

Here’s a good “before” photo of the original wall that was removed between the kitchen and living area:

Now with the open floor plan – what a dramatic difference!

And so . . . the second chapter of this story of an amazing transformation comes to an end! Stay tuned for Part 3 (the master bathroom) next week!
