Modern Baseball play a fairly ambitious brand of pop punk, as is evidenced by their 2016 concept album Holy Ghost and their generally brainy, heart-on-the-sleeve lyricism. But on their latest track, the Philadelphia boys have more modest goals in mind: Namely, singer/guitarist Brendan Lukens just wants to keeps his damn toesies warm.
In all seriousness, “This Song Is Gonna Buy Brendan Lukens a New Pair Of Socks” should, in fact, achieve its stated goal. It’s a catchy ripper featuring such classic MoBo confessionals as “I don’t like you/ And I don’t have to” along with the dueling guitar attack we’ve come to expect from Lukens and co-frontman Jake Ewald.
As DIY Mag notes, the new song will appear on a forthcoming three-way split Modern Baseball is putting together with fellow pop-punk legends Thin Lips and The Superweaks. That bad boy will be available digitally on January 20th via Big Scary Monsters and Lame-O Records. To get it physically, you’ll have to catch the band on tour or just wait for it to show up in your local record store.
