After BABYMETAL further developed their unique blend of J-pop and metal sounds with their excellent sophomore album, Metal Resistance — one of CoS’ Top 50 Albums of 2016 — the Japanese trio scored an opening spot on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ UK tour. Last night, the young phenoms closed out the trek in style as RHCP’s Chad Smith joined them on stage, his face painted in the same white and black makeup as their backing band.

Together, they performed a medley of Judas Priest’s “Painkiller” and “Breaking the Law”. The Chili Peppers percussionist then gave lead vocalist Su-Metal a cake for her 20th birthday and led the crowd in singing her happy birthday. Check out videos of the collaboration and birthday well-wishes below.

This isn’t not the first time BABYMETAL has covered Judas Priest. At the 2016 Alternative Press Music Awards, the Japanese group joined with the British metal vets to perform the very same songs.

BABYMETAL is set to open 2017 strong as they join Guns N’ Roses on their tour of Japan in January. As for Chad Smith, his wife was recently accused by Scott Baio of beating him up while screaming “Grab ’em by the pussy.”
