When Strand Of Oaks’ Timothy Showalter sings, his grainy, full-throated voice booms with intensity and charisma. He showed off his now-developed croon with “Goshen ’97″, the lead single off his new album HEAL, which hits stores on June 24th via Dead Oceans. On his latest song, “Shut In”, Showalter sounds even better, enough to elicit straight-faced comparisons to Bruce Springsteen.
Kicking off with crisp guitar chords, Showalter paints vivid glimpses into his past, his doubts, and struggles. In the chorus, there are twinkling guitar chords and sputtering leads along with Showalter’s screams for healing. Ending with a guitar solo and a piano, it’s a very intimate and cathartic track that fits perfectly with HEAL being Showalter’s “most autobiographical” offering yet. Listen in below (via SPIN).
